Thieves attempted to place charges on our credit card this weekend.

There were five attempts to charge for “flowers” before Mother’s Day. Our credit union declined them all, canceled the card, and a new one is on the way.

There were two probing attempts for 22 cents, and three other attempts for $45, $47, and $66. They were all supposedly flower shops. Our credit union was on the ball and denied them all through some kind of fraud detection. I think the fraudsters didn’t have the 3 digit security code too.

Mrs. Potato had her file compromised in the past Equifax hack. Mine was too and a couple years ago a credit card was opened in my name. That took a while to clear off the big 3 reports.

Anyhoo, check your charges occasionally and watch for small charges especially. These are tests.

1. The probing attempts are a huge flag for credit card companies.

turn off text alerts. Nothing like getting woken up at 2:00 am to learn that Netflix placed a charge on your credit card.😂😂😂😂

2. With most cards you can sign up for notifications for when your card is charged.

This saved me a big hassle a few years ago when an illegitimate charge was made. I got a notice on my phone in less than five minutes after the charge & called the company & cancelled the card. You'll have to create an online account with your card service, but IMO, the notifications are worth it!

from the credit union but didn’t see it until this morning. We will probably do the text notifications now too.

a ticket from Texas to Kansas and back. They caught her in Kansas. My husband said he’d pay his own way to Dallas to testify; however, no one was interested. The second time someone was leaving France and going to Switzerland.

8. Still, people should be cautious about messages from your "bank".

Just before reading this thread, I got a text that said my bank saw something suspicious, froze my card, and gave me a link to click on in order to unfreeze it or validate it or something. I didn’t like the phone number, or the link, so I went to my bank’s app, logged in, and there was no message directly from the bank about anything being wrong. I googled the number and it wasn’t associated with my bank. Moral is: log into or call your bank to verify. This is textbook phishing and I’m not gonna bite.
