A Yale professor’s list of companies staying in Russia has put the business world on notice

Among executives, board members, analysts and others in the business world in recent days, a “who’s who” list has been floating around, showing which companies have pulled out of Russia amid its attack on Ukraine — and which ones have stayed put.

The spreadsheet, compiled by Yale University professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld and his research team, has become a naughty-or-nice list of sorts, with CEOs trying their best to avoid being placed on the roster of “Companies That Remain in Russia With Significant Exposure.”

Sonnenfeld, who founded the nonprofit Chief Executive Leadership Institute, said he has fielded calls from CEOs asking “why we didn’t have them on the right list, and what they needed to do to either clarify or actually take a more strong stance.”

On top of skyrocketing inflation and a plummeting ruble, Russians have been left with a dwindling marketplace: Prada stores have shuttered, TikTok has suspended operations in their country, and car companies including Rolls-Royce, Toyota and Volkswagen have stopped shipping vehicles to Russia. Even WWE, the wrestling entertainment company, said it would halt operations there.

Starbucks has 130 active stores in Russia! I am shocked...Coke and Pepsi still there too...Heinz is also a shocker.

I hope we start the local boycott action!

The companies that should leave are the ones which will hurt Putin.

The companies that should stay are the ones for which leaving would hurt the people.

To say all companies should leave is too indiscriminate and gives a person the false belief they are supporting something good when it might be anything but.

That being said the companies which stay should dedicate 100% of their profits from Russia to help Ukraine whether they help the fight or help the refugees.

Doesn’t kill them n that’s what the people of Ukraine are doing..dying. Boycott these companies..does anyone really think any proceeds will go to help anyone? That’s not how companies do business. This is war n the Russians are the offenders so they need to suffer. We’re suffering, too, with gas prices going up. Small price to pay. The Russian people will understand when it hits their pocketbooks

Even before their backing of Russia, they are also a bunch of expansionist thugs. There unwillingness to be open to what was going on in Wuhan (whether it was a lab leak or not) contributed to the Covid disaster. They haven't answered for that.
