• Inflation’s impact on consumer prices, credit and sentiment will be in focus this week.
• Also be on the lookout for wholesale sales, inventories and jobless claims all while prices for consumer goods remain elevated and gas prices are skyrocketing.

Inflation’s impact on the consumer will be front and center when evaluating this week’s economic data. Consumer credit is due for April. This data point measures how much debt consumers are taking on in a given month. The figure has been increasing as Americans face higher prices for everything from gas to food. May’s Consumer Price Index is scheduled for release by end of week, with inflation at its highest point in 40 years.

The CPI is an important economic indicator that directly impacts all consumers. Investors are hoping inflation will start to cool down, and May’s release is likely to impact the market. Rounding out the consumer-focused economic data for the week is June’s consumer sentiment. This leading indicator is released by the University of Michigan and takes the pulse of consumers concerning their finances, economy and spending. Other economic news to look out for this week include jobless claims and wholesale sales and inventories.
