Aviation Jobs Protected Through September 30th, 2021

Payroll Support Program Extended through American Rescue Plan
Aviation Jobs Protected Through September 30th, 2021

(Euless, TX) - Today, working people across the country can celebrate – relief is on the way. The American Rescue Plan passed in the House of Representative and goes to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law. Included in the bill is a continuation of the Payroll Support Program (PSP), the vital workers-first provision that protects tens of thousands of aviation jobs, in addition to providing much-needed support to Americans across the country.

"This was a Union-led effort," said Julie Hedrick, National President of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA). "By standing together, Labor Unions ensured that any financial assistance from the government protected frontline workers. The PSP funding directly preserves our jobs and our healthcare another six months. APFA members and our union brothers and sisters have worked really hard for this. APFA members alone sent more than 70,000 messages on the PSP to Congress this year. We showed up, we wrote letters, we tied up phone lines, and blasted social media. And our efforts were successful."

This Payroll Support Program guarantees wages & benefits for aviation workers and eliminates all furloughs through September 30th, 2021. It also extends the restriction on executive compensation and the ban on stock buybacks. And finally, it restores air service to communities and supports distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

APFA is thankful for our strong advocates in Congress, of which there are many. A special acknowledgement goes to Chairman DeFazio, Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, and Chairwoman Cantwell.

About APFA:
The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) represents the 24,000+ Flight Attendants of American Airlines, an airline that consists of aviation professionals with a diverse history brought together from multiple airlines. From APFA’s inception in 1977, the Union has fiercely advocated for the Flight Attendant profession. Our Union has been at the forefront of the fight for workplace equality, legislative affairs, and worker’s rights.
