Starbucks ordered to begin bargaining with workers at Seattle flagship store

Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) must begin bargaining with baristas at its upscale Reserve Roastery in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, the National Labor Relations Board ruled Wednesday.

A three-person panel from the board, which enforces federal labor laws, sided with Starbucks Workers United in a case that alleged the Seattle coffee giant unlawfully stalled collective bargaining talks with employees at the store.

The Reserve Roastery at 1124 E. Pike St. is one of six such Starbucks flagship stores across the chain.

Starbucks plans to challenge the ruling and says the NLRB's decision to allow mail-in voting for the union election at the store was "inconsistently applied and may have disenfranchised partner votes," a spokesperson said.
