Executives at Chick-fil-A make around $700K a year, but one location paid its employees in meals

A Chick-fil-A in North Carolina was busted by the Department of Labor (DOL) this week after a federal investigation uncovered that the franchisee was using underage workers and paying others in food vouchers. The store was fined $6,450, the DOL announced.

According to a statement from the DOL, the store was allowing three workers under 18 to “operate, load or unload a trash compactor,” violations of federal child labor laws that prohibit minors from performing dangerous tasks.

It was also discovered that the company that rakes in around $11.3 billion annually, according to Business Insider, and was asking certain employees to direct traffic and then paying them in meal vouchers rather than wages, a “violation of minimum wage provisions.”

It's such a deplorable company. It's disheartening to me that it's so popular, especially in these TN sticks.

3. A lot of people like them because they're

RW Christian bigots. Back when they were having their big controversy over their anti-GLBT attitudes, other RW Christian bigots showed up to eat and show their support. It was wretchedly nauseating.

They do make good fried chicken, but I won't eat there unless I'm with my parents and they're buying. I don't know if they still require it, but they used to make people put on their applications what church they attended and have a recommendation letter from their pastor. That was back in the 80s, though, and I don't know if that was legal. They do good business down here. A Chik-fil-A down here is a goldmine!

5. Yep, I remember that.

There is nothing that could possess me to eat there. I'll go without a meal first. My daughter laughs at me because she doesn't think boycotts do anything to help anyone, but I refuse to support them even with one meal.

8. I shouldn't eat there at all,

but it's a rare occasion that my parents want to eat there, and at their age, I just want to make them happy. Besides, my mom usually cooks and I like to give her a break. But I don't like going there. We always get it to go so I don't have to eat in there. I really don't want to be seen going in or coming out of that place.

9. Making your parents happy

is a noble cause.

I was lucky, I guess, because my parents wouldn't be caught dead at any fast food joint while they were alive. Making them happy would be more like a Thai or Mexican restaurant, usually not a chain. It was a nasty, job, but someone had to do it.


It's strange to think about, but I don't have any memory of my parents EVER going to a fast food restaurant, except when my Dad took me to Burger King for a milkshake on the way home from the orthodontist because my teeth hurt too much to eat real food. We didn't eat out much as kids, and then it was something at the Army base for a special occasion. That's where I got my taste for venison, I guess.

10. Yummm, venison!

I haven't had any of that since my grandma died. My grandfather would shoot a deer some years, the years where he didn't do anything but drink beer at his friend's camp, and my grandma would butcher it and marinate the meat. After it had marinated for long enough (don't remember how long that was) she would cook the steaks. I enjoyed it a lot, but it's been so long ago that I don't remember the actual flavors. I've had deer sausage many times, and it was good, but of course that's different. I'd love to have some again, although I'm no hunter!

12. Our daughter has a friend who hunts.

His wife doesn't like venison, so he gives to our daughter. She can't eat it fast enough, so she gives it to us. I prefer doe and she doesn't care, so I get the doe if it's labeled. We don't marinate it at all. I make casseroles with the ground and stew or soup with the steak. We cook the tenderloin in a pan with butter. It is yummy, but probably an acquired taste.

4. I have been to HQ many times

and they are not as bad as you make them out to be. I was selling POS( cash registers) at the time. They weren' t ready to change and after I left the business they would ask me about POS.
They are just religious. They also have a great car collection in the lobby.

2. Was that at the direction of the company's executives or the individual franchisee?

Even if it was that particular franchisee, the company is obligated to be sure their franchisees follow the law. Aren't they supposed to be good Christians?

11. If people saw the live chickens hanging upside down in assembly lines, getting their throats

slashed, before being dunked live into boiling water, then getting plucked and cut into those delicious tenders and nuggets, nobody would eat their crap.

13. As a Kid

My Mom and my Aunt would get together in the fall to butcher chickens; usually 50 or 60. Mom did the hold them upside down , lopping of their heads thing with a big butcher knife and dousing them in the boiling water. We kids then got to pluck them (and submit out work for approval) and take them to Aunt to Cut them up. Great memories!
