Had discussion with young teamster at work explaining the Hoffa jr years are gone.

He asked me if I think it will happen I said it’s all on Ups management to bargain. I mentioned my crystal ball is in the shop kiddo yet our new president is a fighter no concessions which Hoffa junior just gave it all away.

I get that he’s worried I tried to calm him by telling him I was in on the 94 totally different company a union freight outfit ups is package same religion different denomination and either way we will get through this to the other side.

Management is training non union workers to deliver packages or resign your union membership this is a right to work state and you can continue to be a valued employee and keep working. He was asking me ? over that I said yes you could resign your right to representation yet once it’s settled you can’t come back and the company won’t give a hoot about you.

I then told him we had couple guys scab back in 94 with in couple months they were all gone they left because nothing physical happened to them yet the company started the prick being assholes and they had no representation. And from labor side they were shunned. He told me thanks I said look don’t mention what you asked me to anyone else you hear me do I like the guy yea young married two kids.

Thing is I take him for what he is as he’s only like month half into union before he hauled milk so literally he’s fresh off the farm. When I started in 87 once dudes found out you were ok worth your salt those old guys helped us young men.

Only reason I’m still around is I’m hoping to go until 62 insurance for 18 & 19 as they attend university yet now Liz is gone maybe I’ll push that out in taking my pension if I’m still on the right side of the grass cuz I’m no hurry retire alone.

Yet if we walk will get through it reality gives us no other choice and you’re either in 100% ride or die or just go work non union. And the union gave us the shot and Liz worked to have decent life and to so far give our three oldest daughters a better shot and now it’s 18 & 19 I need to pull it off for.
