LINCOLN Nebraska's largest state employees union may take legal action against Gov. Jim Pillen's order requiring state employees to return to working in their offices.
Leaders of the Nebraska Association of Public Employees, which represents more than 8,000 state employees, said Thursday that the union would take the issue of remote work to the Commission on Industrial Relations or the courts, if necessary.
But they first renewed their formal "demand to bargain" over the issue, armed with new arguments and the results of a survey of their members. Among survey respondents, 1,390 employees said they were looking at leaving state government because of the governor's order.
NAPE Executive Director Justin Hubly said the union sent a new demand letter to the state's chief negotiator, Dan Birdsall, on Wednesday. The letter asks state officials to reconsider their decision not to negotiate over the return-to-office order.
