INCOLN — Nebraska’s largest state employee union alleged Thursday that the state is ignoring a labor commission’s order to pause Gov. Jim Pillen’s return-to-office directive.

The Nebraska Association of Public Employees filed a petition in Lancaster County District Court asking for the state to be declared in contempt for “willful violation” of the Commission of Industrial Relations’ order.

“The CIR’s order is clear and unambiguous,” said Justin Hubly, NAPE executive director. “It’s shocking that the state would simply ignore the commission’s order. The state has left us with no option but to go to court.”

The dispute began with Pillen’s Nov. 13 executive order requiring state employees to return to working in their offices as of Tuesday. The order called for employees to work in their offices from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some exceptions.
