Since 2022, over 170,000 migrants came to New York. Currently there are 67,000 in the city, which has been overwhelmed with how to deal with the crisis and find shelter and other help at taxpayers expense. Now, a new plan approved by Gov. Hochul would offer asylum seekers who are approved for work authorization temporary state jobs, even for migrants who cant speak or write in English, or verify their educational attainment. These jobs would give them work experience in particular categories, including fool-service aide, facilities operations aide, and service and repair aide. Currently, the state has 4,000 entry-level vacancies; as such, this could be a win-win for both the asylum seekers and New York. The plan is also backed by Mayor Adams and the Civil Service Employees Association.
