Bill Maher: ‘White America needs to stop putting forth this toxic idea that racism is over’

On Friday night’s episode of Real Time, panelists Joan Walsh, Wendell Pierce, Rep. Jack Kingston joined host Bill Maher to discuss racism in America and the NFL’s recent domestic abuse scandals. However, the conversation turned quickly to recent events in Ferguson, MO.

When asked about the recent NFL scandals, actor Wendell Pearce argued, “For every one or two or three that may have been in the news because of violence, there are another two thousand that comport themselves as gentlemen, as husbands, as fathers, and as great professionals …It’s not a black thing; white people beat their kids, too.”

Host Bill Maher suggested that domestic abuse was a function of economic status — because “rich white people don’t beat their kids” — and the violence justified in some religious teachings. “There are so many horrible f*cking ideas in the Bible,” Maher said.

When the conversation turned to a discussion of recent events in Ferguson, MO, and how racism still exists in America, Maher said, “I don’t think we need new laws, I don’t think we need reparations. I just think white America needs to stop putting forth the toxic idea that racism is over.”

that racism wasn't much of a 'topic' before Obama. The pure hatred of blacks has now become the full blown racism. Gee, thanks Mr. President. (sarcasim?)

Hope to see him more on panel shows.
