Have had excellent experiences with this company. Mindset of the folks working for them are awesome. They believe in their mission. Have bought some stock in this company because I like the folks and their philosophy on solar power.

say since you are talking about buying and holding (I presume for a long time) that Procter and Gamble would be good for your list.

has been McDonalds. Good growth and great 1/4 checks. I even buy one burger a month just to check on my investment.

Dominion Energy (D) and Mighty(MO) Altria ring my bells as solid dividend performers with excellent yields at 4.39 and 8.31%, respectively. I would consider them a fairly good buy now. I have about a month before I can begin to invest. I hope to pick five to ten solid companies that will give me a yield of 5-6%.
Today Dow is 5.5% and Verizon is 6.7%.

Enphase has shot up like a rocket this year. No dividend yet. Could be a big growth play.

WTRG, PG, MCD all have dividends in the 2-3% range.

Some dude on Wall Street made a list for 2023; TFC sounds interesting, merger of BB&T and SunTrust makes Truist 6th largest in US, 4.9% yield at today's price.

So far let's say these five, any others worth considering?

D, Dow, MO, VZ, TFC approximate average dividend today =5.96%.

I owned McDonalds at $35 once. Sigh.

A quick search of dividend stocks 5.9 % and above; large capital companies turned up 47 names. 15 were common stocks, a REIT, and the rest were depository receipts representing foreign stocks.

The portfolio will be divided between an IRA and a cash account. My new thought is to pick ten best common stocks and ten best foreign, then put five of each, domestic and foreign, in each account. I can diversify some within each sector also, the original first five are all from a different sector I believe. TFC is a bank, Dow, Verizon, Altria, Dominion Energy. Get as much diversity as you can with 20 stocks.

I want to preserve cash and earn dividends to spend (IRA) or reinvest (cash). Any other half-knowledgeable, half-dangerous self investors like myself are welcome to chime in.
