A Reminder That Michael Shellenberger Is A PR Professional. Not A Scientist, a PR Guy. Not An Environmentalist, PR Guy

EDIT

Conservation writer Jared Kukura revealed last month that "a Wikipedia editor stepped forward credibly accusing Shellenberger of verbally abusing and threatening them in an attempt to censor criticism and information about his public relations experience." Yes, it seems that Shellenberger wasn't pleased with Wikipedia noting that he started as, and continues to be, a public relations (PR) professional. As Kukura notes, Shellenberger started as a PR guy before starting up as a supposed environmentalist. More recently, the Nuclear Energy Institute's (NEI) 2017 end-of-year report names Shellenberger among the "third parties" with whom NEI tapped "to engage with media."

By 2021, Shellenberger himself was commenting on his own Wikipedia page, complaining about "a completely biased attack" and claiming that an editor "spread misinformation, is biased and should be banned from editing this page." More specifically, he was mad that the label "former public relations professional" appeared in the first sentence of the article. Kukura explains,

"Shellenberger’s extensive public relations experience challenges his credibility as a so-called journalist. Hiding that information in the main body of the Wikipedia article helps his carefully manicured public image." After agreeing to a call, the Wikipedia editor told Kukura, Shellenberger "hurled insults," calling him a "fucking coward" who looked "like a fucking idiot." While the editor ultimately kept the "former public relations professional" line in the first sentence, he has since deleted his account due to the harassment.

EDIT

That's perhaps what makes Shellenberger so dangerous. Shellenberger has "also been on a number of different oil and gas podcasts,” demonstrating that he is deeply entangled with one of the most powerful industries in the world. “I do not want the harassment that comes with dealing with those types," the editor commented. You can subscribe to Shellenberger's Substack if you want to hear more about how he's plotting to "kill the Censorship Industrial Complex." Surely he'll start with a pledge not to harass and intimidate any more Wikipedia editors for accurately describing his career, lest he be guilty of censoring his own history!
