Enjoy a full 50-minute documentary about parrots in urban areas.
Planet Parrot: Alien invaders are infiltrating our cities. Colourful, noisy and clever, they are multiplying rapidly. The rise of the city parrot seems unstoppable. But why are they doing so well in cities, while their rural cousins are struggling to survive? Yucatán, Mexico: a small beak tentatively takes some food from its human surrogate mother. Even at this stage, the features are recognisable this is a baby Scarlet Macaw. A team of parrot experts are trying to rebuild the wild populations of one of the most colourful parrots in the world. Every newly hatched parrot baby is nurtured until it is fit for release. Not only the Scarlet Macaw is struggling to survive in the wild, but many other species of wild parrots are declining in numbers as well. Several thousand kilometers away, in the city of Stuttgart, Germany: a flock of adult Yellow-headed Amazons are swooping into trees. Snow is falling, and the parrots look out of place against the grey buildings and drab skies. But these parrots live in the wild and are growing in numbers.

(93,070 posts)Rather large flocks of green parrots in San Diego. The flock in the eastern part of the county used to glom the pecan trees in my mom's back yard every morning and every evening. It was always a good ten minutes of noise until they settled into the trees and were quieter and they left more quietly. The last time I was there I tried to get pictures of them but they're hard to get good shots of them.

(688 posts)They are loud! I think its been determined they are Amazon parrots, green with a spot of red on their heads.
A lot of folks hate them but I don't.

(6,362 posts)while they, and the other local birds, rape every piece of fruit off our fruit trees!
Grapes, feijoa, figs, apples, almonds, all for them, none for us!
Do a great job of eating the stale cat food our cat gets offended by, nothing is wasted!
The ibis and pigeons I'm not too fond of, but I mustn't be an avian racist.
