Giving Up Coffee

It's been a couple of weeks since my family has given up coffee.

(I'm in the "Kill Your Darlings" school of cost savings.)

We've been drinking this in the morning instead:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Great-Value-Black-Tea-Bags-8-oz-100-Count/10315396

100 teabags for less than 2 bucks.

Pros: More hydrated!
Cons: Less awake!

Pros: Save $520 dollars a year
Cons: ...tea bags..no big deal really.

Pros: Freedom from addiction
Cons: Missing that little window of peak caffeination-productivity.

Pros: We feel better. Less mood swings.
Cons: Sleepy!

Pros: Possible improved carbon, water footprint
Cons: I'm still pretty sleepy!

Coffee culture is HUGE here. And people are so fetishistic about what beans they will or will not accept, what brewing methods are acceptable to them. I'm happy to not participate in that marketing pscyops. I am not my choice of coffee.

Have you given up coffee? Would you want to? What would change your mind?

For those that want it, definitely.

When I put together a food donation I like to include coffee and something sweet.

I quit drinking alcohol in June and it was so much easier than quitting coffee.

Depends on whether I eat a regular breakfast (coffee) or just toast, croissant or a bagel (espresso).

I'm not a coffee snob, although I prefer fresh ground so when I find a good deal on whole bean, I jump on it. To be honest, I think it is the aroma of the fresh ground beans, more than any difference in flavor.

I use an old percolator or an even older stove top drip pot, for the coffee, although sometimes, when the weather is warm, I pull out the French Press. And a thrift store espresso machine for, well, for the espresso.

Although I try to restrict caffeine intake to my mornings, if the mood takes me, in the afternoons, I switch to a nice cup of strong tea.

And I have no interest in stopping. It is something I really enjoy and manage to hold to a moderate indulgence.

Which is not the case when I buy from Amazon. For instance.

So I don't beat myself up about that too much.

In my community Walmart is the best shopping experience with the best employees.

that's what they do. Sorry you have no choices. Last time I set foot in wally-hell I felt so icky and dirty I had to shower when I got home.

There were no mom and pop shops because there has been a housing boom and population explosion in the last 15 years.

We chased out the mountain lions and the eagles and brought Walmart along with us. Chick Fil A is the most popular restaurant in town. Lots of houses though and more all the time.

The nearest supermarket is pushing hard on the automation. They want me to order my stuff online or give my card information and scan as I go or if I must, check myself out. They will pull you out of line to check you out at the self checkout so badly do they want you to make the transition. I tried New Seasons and the Whole Foods, but they aren't really..large.

I love Winco, which is employee owned operated and about 7 miles away.
We do our weekly shopping there, but yeah. I do darken Walmart's door if I need an item or two. Not gonna lie.
There are a ton of employees and they seem really happy and the place is clean and well stocked. And it's close.
I don't otherwise like Walmart but this one is actually kind of fun.

That when I am done with this box of tea I can kick caffeine entirely. I may just be a sleepy person. Lol.

First time was just run of the mill massive headaches... For three days.. Then years later I tried again... Massive headaches and this time I got an upset stomach.. On the couch for a few days lethargic and sleepy... The I took an Excedrine and felt fantastic.. Oh yea
contains caffeine... Green tea takes the edge off.. Yes it has caffeine but it does not hit you like coffee.. Just a mild alertness.. YMMV, works for me..

I mean, I tried the last time I tried. And god. It's so fucking painful!

No headaches with the cheap black tea. I drink it weak, but it's enough to keep those really bad symptoms off.

I like my tea cold so i get a quart of water boiling, drop in 12 tea bags, stir them around for a very short bit, turn off the heat, let sit on stove till tea has reached room temp and then pour in a gallon beverage container and top off with cold water. I'll then squirt in some ReaLemon lemon juice, stir and put in fridge.

A $1 box of teabags makes me 8 gallons of tea.
