Found a portable air conditioner curbside that sells new for 450 but the cord was cut off. Why would

Someone do that, anybody know?

I can ask an electrician friend to fix and he’ll do it for pretty reasonably.

I’ve never used ac at home but there are old dogs in the house alone all day and in August it’s going to be too hot for them. They can’t come to work with me, that’s for sure.

What say you? Take it back to curbside bulky pickup or give it a shot?

The cord being cut off could be telling you something.

That's what be one might do if the compressor were shot or there was an electrical problem that could be dangerous.

doesn't mean it is. You can certainly put a new cord on, but your might want to have a peak inside at the compressor.

people don’t know how to replace a bad cord. I’d replace it but plug it into a GFI outlet the first time I used it.

Do you have any friends who use to be a Sears repairman

My uncle was, many years ago he would get appliances that people did not want to pay to repair

Get them next to nothing, fix them up and sell to family members

I had a microwave that lasted 25 years, I miss my uncle, he was a thrifty man

The cord was removed for a reason. Don't think you're going to get a cheep unit by replacing the cord. It almost certainly requires more extensive repairs.

malfunctioned. They had him cut the cord, mail it to them, and upon receipt of the plug they sent him a new appliance. He was not required to send back the whole thing.

Except Amazon just made me promise that I cut off the cord and disposed of the heater. At $30, that was sufficient for them to give me a credit.

Perhaps the householder who pays the bills was trying to discourage another householder from using the appliance?

Don't laugh (too much); I've seen it happen!
