Map of every railroad line in the world, and the maximum allowed speed on those lines

I've seen a lot of odd things on the internet, but I can't believe anybody sat down and did this. This appears to be a wiki-like effort.

Who does this stuff?

Yes, the Colorado Midland is on the map, as an abandoned line.

1. I'm surprised at the number of countries with little or no rail

2. At least some of the map in this country is misleading.

You'd think you can take a train between Albuquerque and Denver, but you can't. You can take a train between Albuquerque and Raton, NM, then a bus to Denver. Or, train all the way via either Los Angeles or Chicago.

There is remarkably little north-south train service, other than on the east and west coasts, and a central line from Chicago to New Orleans. Sigh. I would love to take the train more often, but the lack of service is shocking.

3. Keep in mind that most of the rail 'service' in this country is for FREIGHT,

not passenger.
