The second and final nine-day closing of the Wells Street Bridge is scheduled to start Friday night, disrupting CTA train service to the Loop again, officials said Monday.
For commuters it's the same drill as in early March, when one leaf of the 91-year-old bascule bridge was rebuilt. Except now it's the other new half that will be floated up the Chicago River on a barge and bolted into place, officials said. The CTA will also replace tracks and other equipment on and near the bridge.
Elevated train service in and around the Loop will be affected starting after Friday evening's rush period and extending until early on Monday, May 6, the CTA said.
Purple Line/Evanston Express service will be suspended over the nine days. Local Purple Line trains running between Howard Street and Linden in Wilmette will continue service, officials said. ................(more)
