Ringling Bros. Circus to end use of elephants by 2018
Story hereOne of the biggest circuses in the U.S. is that owned by Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey. The circus will phase out its use of elephants in shows over the next three years.

(14,449 posts)I can't imagine what they will do to replace that part of the show. The elephants are a big part of the show. I guess they will think of something hopefully. The joy a circus brings to children is invaluable.

FUCK.
You know, the kids enjoyed bear-baiting awhile back, just like the way kids used to love lynchings and watching the runaway slaves get tortured. Kids LOVED the old drawing and quartering -- they used to play at it with dolls! We should do that again! Invaluable! Joy!
Really. Wake up. That is an awful opinion to post on this subject.

(7,598 posts)I raised two children without ever taking them near a circus, and they turned out quite joyful. We preferred kites and bikes to staged animal cruelty. Really, do you not care at all about the elephant's experience? No other creature's fear and pain matters at all to you?
They torture baby elephants. Strike them, goad them, teach them fear. And you're all just into that, apparently.
Wow. I find that disgusting. IMHO. And what are you doing posting in this group again?

(14,449 posts)Prove where I wrote I didn't care about elephants being beaten. I imagine I am in for a long wait for your reply.

(7,598 posts)My point stands: children do not need to be entertained by performing animals. They can be entertained by almost any spectacle. Such things should be allowed to lapse into history, just like slavery and torture. Right? Tradition should not excuse or equivocate suffering. Right?
We're supposed to grow out of this stuff.

(64,592 posts)Hopefully, they won't replace inherent animal cruelty with more of the same, regardless of the "joy" it allegedly brings to children. You know, like nothing else matters, I guess.
