dealing w/ a deplorable, threatening to "cut off its head" re: injured cat.

Quick background: This deplorable lives close by, and has perhaps a 3rd grade education. He comes around often asking for yard work, he picks up cans, drinks beer on the job. I had a minor emergency of a wasp nest and called him to help.
He came, told me how his wife, " ran over the cat, then backed up and ran over him again". I tried to assess the situation, but when he gave his ax cutting solution, it stood my hair on end. Immediately I went there and got involved with everyone at the house. End result, cat is now at the vet clinic, has spent all week there and today he is being released to me. Of course I am paying the bill.
I can't believe the cat survived, primary diagnosis is, according to the vet, a cracked, and broken pelvis. His colon was injured. Prognosis is he "might" recover. He is here now, in cage rest for 6 weeks. I dusted off and unpacked one of my former big dog's cage. He is on Metacam (meloxicam) a powerful painkiller.
My 15 yr old rescue cat will now have company when I travel.
This deplorable household has 2 more outside cats. I know this is an illegal situation, even for the deep red state I live in. The majority of the old neighborhood is more or less on this level. The majority of the southeast is there as well.

(29,787 posts)or ASPCA....Running over the cat a SECOND time was definitely animal abuse!

(5,266 posts)The veterinarian fortunately will be making the call for me. The veterinarian will be calling animal control.

(5,266 posts)I took the cat to a vet hospital and this case will be filed by the attending veterinarian. Unfortunately this is still ongoing.
I am dealing with a real jackass deplorable.

(5,266 posts)Starting with the injured cat, the vet bill paid, and further assessment.
Last thing I want to do is to inflame a situation, and be unwelcome to the deplorable. There are more animals involved, as always.

(5,266 posts)If animal control takes them ( and I hope they do), I will do my best to get them to safety.
I will try to even get the deplorables to give them up before. I already gave the fucks the word that an animal control report is in process.
They were not pleased at all, fuck them.

(49,212 posts)Presumably they're familiar with the local legal situation and can advise you or possibly make the initial complaint.
FWIW, the education level, political opinions etc of the perpetrators really shouldn't matter.

(5,266 posts)You are so right concerning the political views and education.
I was appalled at the ax cut solution for the injured cat, thus Used the connotation deplorable.
The assumed education level is irrelevant in light of human regards to treatment of kindred creatures.
In this case, I am guarded with how I explain the situation and propose solutions to the deplorable man.
It's still ongoing, I called his household to advise of the animal control report. As I expected, it inflamed the man.
Based on his ax "solution" I still fear for the safety of the remaining animals on his premises.
(Sigh, ). It's wee hours of the morning, the injured cat is safe. I brought him to my home from the vet hospital where he spent all week. The cat is confined to a cage. He is not able to move much at all.

Credo Rule 1. Nice work and welcome to the club if you weren't already here, you're a hero. Please keep being one.
I'm going to agree with Leftymom that the perp's particulars don't matter.
