Ikea is working on a new meatless meatball

New York (CNN Business) — Ikea is jumping on the plant-based protein trend.

The furniture retailer known for its Swedish meatballs is working on a new version of the food that "looks and tastes like meat but is made from plant based alternative proteins," it said Thursday. Ultimately, Ikea wants to sell the plant-based meatball at all of its restaurants worldwide.

Demand for plant-based protein alternatives is heating up as consumers seek out healthier diets and more ways to reduce their environmental footprints.

This week has shown just how popular the trend has become, among both consumers and investors.

13. If you have read this forum enough, you know that it attracts anti-vegans

and draws in omnivores who don't realize that this is a vegan forum. If you mock vegan products, don't be surprised when people assume you're not vegan. I was trying to be polite and friendly, but now that you've responded by laughing at me, I will be frank and say that it is at best thoughtless for a vegan to mock vegan products on a forum that is frequented almost completely by people who are actively supporting the factory-farm industry three times a day. Every time you post something disparaging about a new vegan product, that post is read by non-vegans who use it to justify their own actions, and animals end up getting hurt as a result.

that are popular enough that non-shoppers eat there. They also have a pretty impressive selection of imported Swedish food and drink; I always end up buying crispbreads and lingonberry jam when I shop for shelves or slipcovers.

9. The Swiss eat horse meat.

I had horse meat in Switzerland a few years before I went vegan. I don't see how eating the flesh of a horse or cat or dog is any different from eating the flesh of a cow or a pig or a chicken. They are all animals who, like us, want to live on this earth.

If you want to improve your health, reduce your carbon footprint, and stop supporting the torture perpetrated by the factory-farm industry, give Gardein's meatless meatballs a try.
