But authorities are looking into whether she should face charges for what she may have known of his intentions and possibly failed to report to law enforcement.

The development comes as investigators try to understand what motivated Mateen to carry out the devastating attack. Forty-nine people were killed early Sunday and 53 people were wounded. Officials said that 28 victims are still hospitalized, including at least four people who are in critical condition.

Salman, Mateen's second wife, has been cooperating with various law enforcement agencies. The couple has been married since 2011. They have a 3-year-old son.

The couple lived in Fort Pierce, Florida, about an hour from the club. Salman told the FBI she had noticed changes in her husband's behavior and tried to dissuade him from doing anything violent, the official said.

Even if she had turned him in would it have stopped him? Chances are he would have convinced the law like he did the FBI. They didn't find him dangerous.

I don't know what kind of marriage they had but I know what it's like being married to someone who's dangerous. Trying to do something about it can make things worse. (Women who leave their abusers are 85% more likely to be killed than if they stay, or so I've read.)

Should we assume she was complicit because she's Palestinian or is there something to indicate she's a jihadist too?

her "conflicting stories" were that she didn't know what he was going to do and that she had an "inkling" about it. You can't get someone arrested on an "inkling". Didn't he go to work that day? Did she even know where he was heading after that?

He was a security guard. Maybe he told her or she believed the guns and ammo were for work. His own father didn't know his son was going to gay bars. He said he wasn't gay; he wasn't raised that way.

It really sounds like Omar was living a double life. He was a time bomb in any event.

He was hanging out at Pulse a couple of times a month for about three years, according to one of the entertainers. That's a lot of scoping for someone who isn't gay.

Committing atrocities is often usual when an inferior force is fighting a superior force. The idea is to psyche 'em out, get them to want to just leave. I consider bombings and drone strikes pretty atrocious but then I'm not a big fan of war.

A witness said Mateen said there were others with him but apparently he was just making stuff up.
