WASHINGTON, D.C. -- After a decade in which Democrats have shown increasing affinity toward the Palestinians, their sympathies in the Middle East now lie more with the Palestinians than the Israelis, 49% versus 38%.
Todays attitudes reflect an 11-percentage-point increase over the past year in Democrats sympathy with the Palestinians. At the same time, the percentages sympathizing more with the Israelis (38%) and those not favoring a side (13%) have dipped to new lows.
Sympathy toward the Palestinians is also at a new high among political independents, up six points to 32%. However, more independents still lean toward the Israelis (49%).
There are too few adult members of Generation Z (aged 18 to 22) in the recent poll to report, but the limited available data suggest their views on this question are similar to millennials.
Todays divergence reflects a steep drop in recent years in net sympathy for Israel among millennials, whereas net sympathy for Israel has been steadier at a higher level among all three older generations.

(16,283 posts)1. Any reflections on the cause of this effect?
Maybe, perhaps, something having to do with Israel/Palestine rather than something having to do with Democrats/younger people?
What could it be.... What could it be?...

I think the piece is newsworthy.

(17,474 posts)3. It shows that anti-Israel propaganda is working
Especially with young progressives.

I think it is also "if the right wing is for it, then there must be something wrong, so we are against it".

Handmaids Tale author nods at inclusion in Israel protests
Margaret Atwood tweets video of hundreds of women across Israel donning iconic red robes and white caps during anti-government protests
By TOI STAFF and AP
Margaret Atwood, the Canadian author of the dystopian novel-turned-TV show The Handmaids Tale, has tweeted approvingly of women utilizing the themes of the book in mass anti-government protests across Israel.
Over the past 12 weeks, many of the protests across the country have included an eye-catching display of dozens of women silently marching with their heads down and their hands clasped, wearing the red robes and white caps made iconic by the story.
Those participating are seeking to drive home the fear that the governments plans to massively overhaul the judiciary will leave minorities and women unprotected, referencing the futuristic novel where subjugated women are forced to bear children for male leaders of a patriarchal society.

(6,630 posts)7. Because Bibi's propaganda and fascist motives aren't enough?
From where is the anti-Israel propaganda in the USA ( if it exists on a national platform) coming from?
Young Dems aren't lining up with the Charlottesville-type right wing crowd, right?
Perhaps the change in view is coming from the actions we all see taking place.
