NY Times's Friedman: US Netanyahu gov't is making rethink of US-Israel ties 'inevitable'

Columnist says Biden administration believes Israeli coalition is using judicial overhaul as cover for ‘unprecedented radical behavior… that is undermining our shared interests’

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman penned a column Tuesday warning that the Biden administration is reassessing its ties with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, amid growing American alarm over the actions of the hard-right Israeli coalition.

Friedman said US President Joe Biden believes the government is using its judicial overhaul push as a smokescreen to engage “in unprecedented radical behavior… that is undermining our shared interests with Israel, our shared values and the vitally important shared fiction about the status of the West Bank that has kept peace hopes there just barely alive.”

The Supreme Court stops them, so the court has to be neutered. What happens to the Palestinians who own the land in the West Bank and live there seems to be totally immaterial to right-wing Israelis. But there is no place for Palestinians to go. Gaza is barely livable now with not enough fresh water. Israelis seem to think that West Bank Palestinians should just pick up and move to another Arab country and leave everything behind. I’m certainly tired of my tax dollars going to Israeli settlers to steal the land and homes of Palestinians. Israel has a country. Let them use it and not the West Bank.

With the exception of " Israelis seem to think that West Bank Palestinians should just pick up and move to another Arab country and leave everything behind. "
Not all of us .
I am Gush Shalom and Peace Now ....we are the Israeli Left .
We have been fighting for a Two State Solution and against the settler movement since our conception .

The hard right groups in Israel want all of the West Bank for Israeli settlers.

Yup .
Not news for us , see :

Smotrich wants one million West Bank settlers. That’s not so far-fetched

Seeking to double the settler population, Israel's far-right government is expediting infrastructural plans that were — often literally — laid decades ago.

is like trying to reason with a brick wall.

I think the root of this disastrous situation is rooted in the power given to the Rabbinate, who welds that power with all its might. Coupling that with Netanyahu's narcissism and lust for power has brought us to this day where Israeli society is endanger of unraveling.

Israeli's first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion came out retirement in the days after the end of the 1967 war. He warned the government and the military that an occupation of the West Bank would only lead to undermine the moral fabric of the country and corrupt the government and the military. What vision the man had.

what's the best strategy for his country and the region. Sociopaths & narcissists are going to do the thing that serves themselves first. Israel deserves better.
