(8,489 posts)certainly not excusing any of it at all but there is no black and white viewpoint that can be taken in all honesty. There have been Israeli terrorists for a long time now as there have been Palestinian terrorists for a long time. Neither are right, both are wrong. How wrong is the question. The Jewish people after a mass extermination event wanted a safe homeland, they just happened to choose a religious place that was already peopled. It has to be said that most countries did not admit them as refugees. A bit of a rock and a hard place scenario. So, to the biblical homeland. They mass emigrated there and changed the dynamic with the support or at least the acceptance of the United Nations. Odd that pro-Israel people are against the UN now when they actually helped create it. Well the people there did not like it, Who would? A outside power decided that outsiders had a right to not only live in your place but actually create states? American Revolutions have started over less than this. But the Bible. So Israel created a state and the people of the area did not like it and here we are. Its not about being Jewish, you can be a Jew and not be given citizenship if you dont believe in the religion, you can not be a Jew and believe in the religion and be given citizenship. Its all about religion. But the Bible. Where should the Jews have gone, everywhere. America and the UK and all the free countries gave the Jewish people short shift and made them go to a place that was rife with discord. All of them have a responsibility for this but so do we. This is part of our being idiots on the world stage. People talk about how no one wants the Palestinians but no one wanted the Jewish people either including us. So this is the clusterfuck we get. There is so much religion on both sides that it might as well be a Dune movie or book. As a county we pay for our sins in installments, others pay for it in full. That's America for you.

(123,112 posts)the Middle East were persecuted and expelled from every Arab nation and Iran. Just under a million people. Just under a million Palestinians were expelled from Israel. The losers were Palestinians who were not given anywhere to live. There has to be a homeland for them that is not run by terrorists who enrich themselves by co-opting foreign aide like Hamas leadership had to the tune of $11 Billion. That is stealing from the Palestinians not to mention convincing some to be human sheild martyrs every time Hamas has attacked Israel. Netanyahu is not in a rush to cede land to a Palestinians State or to give then autonomy. So all that is left is Arab partners, the UN, and world powers to make sure Palestinians have a place they can grow in and get educated in and not be martyrs or used by terrorists anymore. And do what the Scots did when the English routed them in 1746 and get the best revenge by education, education, education.

(8,489 posts)Two losers pitted against each other. One with no homeland and the other to loose theirs. Part of it because we decided that America didn't want them. I wonder how much that would have changed if the UK and the US would have allowed it. Of course there was the religion part and the push for Zionism was very strong and had been for a while. But the Bible. I do have to think that the majority of Jewish people would have chosen America instead of a desert if given the chance but of course we didn't do that. Probably the pro-nazis that were still in our government that morphed eventually the republican party decided that.

(123,112 posts)Though there was still racist immigration laws. Israel was chosen by many because they did not want to rely on anyone else for their safety after 2000 years of persecution.

(8,489 posts)For three full years, the U.S. Congress ignored the plight of the Last Million. Only in June of 1948 did Congress pass a bill authorizing the admission of 200,000 DPs, but barring the immigration of the 90% of Jewish survivors who, having spent the war years in the Soviet Union and/or the first months of the postwar period in Poland, were accused of being Communist sympathizers or operatives. No such security measures were written into the law to guard against the entry of the thousands of Nazi collaborators and war criminals who had lied their way into the displaced persons camps. The outcry against the discriminatory nature of the first Displaced Persons Act was such that it was amended, two years later, to remove the restrictions on Jewish immigration, but, by this time, after three to five years in camps in Germany, the vast majority of survivors, unwilling to spend a day more in Germany, had immigrated to Israel, illegally before May, 1948 and then legally after Israel declared, and President Truman recognized, its independence.

Arab-Jewish Movement Standing Together Plans to Guard Gaza Aid Convoys From Right-wing Looters
To counteract an effort by right-wing activists to prevent aid trucks from reaching Gaza, Standing Together plans to form a buffer zone and hopes police will help maintain the peace
A grassroots movement focused on an Arab-Jewish partnership plans to mobilize Israelis in an attempt to quell the recent spate of attacks on trucks carrying humanitarian aid into Gaza perpetrated by right-wing settlers.
The group Standing Together is a large, fast-growing movement dedicated to "mobilizing Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel in pursuit of peace, equality, and social and climate justice," according to their website.
On Sunday, they plan to assemble a "Humanitarian Guard" at the Tarqumiya Border Crossing, where aid convoys prepare to enter Gaza from Israel. On Monday, Israeli right-wing activists looted one such convoy, ripping open bags of flours and smashing boxes of food. A few hours later, the activists returned and set fire to two of the trucks.
The Humanitarian Guard plans to use their cars to form a buffer zone around the aid trucks as they travel towards Gaza in order to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
"The settlers mobilize their activities over WhatsApp groups so we know they are planning to be at the Sunday aid delivery," explained Rula Daood, the national co-director of Standing Together. "So we will be there too."

Extremist settlers again attack truck and injure driver in W. Bank; wound 3 soldiers
Driver in moderate condition; troops lightly injured while confronting rioters, provide medical assistance to driver; US weighing sanctions against those attacking aid
Israeli settler extremists attacked a truck in the central West Bank and assaulted its driver early Friday for the second night in a row, due to their mistaken belief it was delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The settlers torched the vehicle and moderately injured the driver. An army force that intervened was also attacked, and three soldiers were lightly injured, including two officers.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said the settlers attacked the Israeli driver of the truck at a junction outside the Kochav Hashahar settlement, northeast of Ramallah, before setting the vehicle ablaze. Troops called to the scene provided medical treatment to the driver while working to distance the dozens of assailants. The IDF said the extremists responded with violence toward the soldiers.

(4,293 posts)The extremist settlers follow the ideology of Meir Kahane .
He founded the political party called Kach .
There was a breakaway party called Kahane Chai .
Both organizations were banned outright in 1994 by the Israeli cabinet under 1948 anti-terrorism laws, following statements in support of Baruch Goldstein's massacre of 29 Palestinians at the Cave of the Patriarchs (Goldstein himself was a Kach supporter).
They were also designated as terrorist organizations by the US .
Today their party is called Otzma Yehudit lead by Itamar Ben-Gvir.......who is a Kahanist ....
he is also a racist fascist .
