BREAKING: 22 people have been killed after Israel targeted a school in the south of Gaza City, Gaza Health Ministry says.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) An Israeli strike on a school in northern Gaza on Saturday killed at least 22 people, the Gaza Health Ministry said.
Another 30 were wounded in the strike on the school in the Zeitoun area of Gaza City, the ministry said in a statement.
The Israeli army said earlier Saturday it struck a Hamas command and control center, which was embedded inside a compound that previously served as a school.
The Hamas terrorist organization systematically violates international law by operating from inside civilian infrastructure, the army said.
The Israeli army has continually accused Hamas of operating from within civilian infrastructure in Gaza, including schools and United Nations facilities.

I bet they inadvertently neglected to mention that.

(18,878 posts)My first thought was how awful. Then as I began reading the article, I remembered that yesterday was a Saturday so no school. Then to find out its a former school loaded up with Hamas members pissed me off. The worst propaganda ever!

(11,137 posts)because that would be such a patently blatant lie that it would embarrass even them.
Do you know something they don't know? When was the last time that school children were seen in that building?

(11,137 posts)You are citing the numbers given by the hamas agency via Al Jazeera. Neither are known for their impartiality or accuracy. Neither gives account for the number of Hamas operatives among casualties. Neither mentions Hamas' criminal culpability for using Gazan civilians, including children, as human shields.
And yes, perhaps none of the children among the casualties were in schools. Unless you can show legitimate statistics to the contrary, you have no standing to suggest they were.

(11,137 posts)If you want to dispute the wisdom of the US funding armaments for Israel, that's an entirely different issue from the one posted in the OP, and it would require addressing it in the context of all the threats Israel faces.
If you want to talk about that, you are welcome to post your own OP on the subject instead of hijacking a thread about a single incident in a localized conflict.

(10,683 posts)All I can say is I hope everything gets better -regardless of how that is done. I mourn the thousands of Israelis and Palestinians unnecessarily killed from what I consider to be stubborn narcissism on behalf of Israeli and Palestinian leadership.

(10,683 posts)My opinion is fairly partial to please do not kill large swaths of people unnecessarily. I cant think of many exceptions to that belief.
That belief is a primary reason I am supporting Harris over Trump. Between covid, allowing states to enact horrible abortion bans leading to a massive rise in maternal mortality rates -along with a myriad of other examples; it is clear just how bad the other choice is.
In addition, the prospect of any type of peaceful solution in the region completely goes away if Trump is elected.
