(5,709 posts)1. Certainly believable since the US has tremendous
credibility on anything in the region over the last 75+ years. Their statement couldn't possibly just be about bolstering it's defense of it's complicity currently and over the many years. Just ask Native Americans and they'll tell you can definitely rely on the integrity of the words of the US government. Shame on anybody who would think otherwise or be skeptical.

(22 posts)2. Makes sense....
Seems like Sinwar was cornered and without hostages he had no bargaining chips. Well see soon enough. If Sinwar was the obstacle, we should see a deal soon.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is responsible for the deaths of six Israeli soldiers who were killed while captives of Hamas because he sabotaged a Gaza ceasefire agreement that would have led to their release, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on 2 September.
The Hebrew newspaper reported that according to a senior Israeli security official, Israel submitted a proposal for an agreement in May that would have returned the Israeli captives and led to a ceasefire.
However, after Hamas agreed to most of its terms, the Prime Minister decided to back out of the deal. To do so, he ordered a new document to be drafted in July, which included "clarifications" to the first Israeli proposal.
According to the senior security official, the clarifications included major new conditions meant to sabotage any chance of an agreement.

Netanyahu and his crazy ultra-right-wing cabinet ministers don't want a ceasefire. They want to keep killing, starve out the people from the north of Gaza, raze what's left of Gaza so there are no conditions left to sustain life there for Palestinians. Occupy, annex and re-settle. The crazy settlers are chomping at the bits and Likud is more than willing to accomodate them. Greater Israel, you know.
I hope it won't come to pass, but who will stop him is the question.

(11,135 posts)4. ... Because Sinwar refusing to negotiate is such an inconceivable notion!
And therefore, any comments hinting at Sinwar's intransigence need to immediately be deflected to "but... Netanyahu!"
Whoa, was I surprised to see THAT coming from a mile away!
