US and Israel reject Arab alternative to Trump's Gaza plan

The US and Israel have rejected an Arab plan for the post-war reconstruction of the Gaza Strip that would allow the 2.1 million Palestinians living there to stay in place.
The proposal, endorsed by Arab leaders at a summit in Cairo, is their alternative to President Donald Trump's idea for the US to take over Gaza and permanently resettle its population.
The Palestinian Authority and Hamas welcomed the Arab plan, which calls for Gaza to be governed temporarily by a committee of independent experts and for international peacekeepers to be deployed there.
But both the White House and Israeli foreign ministry said it failed to address realities in Gaza and stood by Trump's vision.

I meanwhat wealthy individual would ever buy a villa in the most unstable and war-prone region in the world, besides Ukraine?
That's an insane idea, as are most of trump's foolishness.

(2,414 posts)Of course I wish they would finally do SOMETHING - besides tut-tut as they have done for 17 months. But the monarchies and dictators are beholden to the U.S. One might even call them client states.
As bin Salman is reported to have said, he doesn't care about Palestinians, but added that his people do.
It will all hinge on what "his people" and the rest of the Arab Street are willing to do and how destabilizing that will be for their rulers - who I don't think want to upset the apple cart, especially now.
So barring an unlikely Arab revolution against their rulers, I don't hold out much hope.

(6,873 posts)reaction on the streets in Egypt will be a signal to the Saudis of how much blow-back there might be. Also in the larger scheme of the US and Israel pushing for Syrian factions to keep a "unified"Syria from happening it goes to the general approach of trying to foster instability and control it at the same time. A fractured Syria gives them the excuse to continue their presence and even solidify factions taking more control of their respective regions along with promises of financial aid/payoffs and military assistance.
Israel mucking about with the Kurds up in the north of Syria has Turkey on edge and there is little serious "Israeli security needs" justification that Netanyahu can give for doing so. The supposed "concern for freeing the oppressed Syrians" was all along a propaganda piece while various actors pursued their own self interests.
There has been discussion that Israel has called for a "David Corridor" stretching across Syria.
