This won't happen, and that is why it is in ....."Creative Speculation."................................but this law could
reduce gun deaths significantly. (maybe)

(4,074 posts)Gun owners who fail to report will be disarmed as they are no longer committed to collective self-defense, the purpose of militia.
As American society exists now, the gun problem is proof that collective self-defense is less popular than personal self-defense and that is straight-up selfishness.
As I hear it, selfishness is very popular these days among some.

Must be of age, have had training, and passed testing to get a license.
Then, registration and insurance are required. Any major violation or enough minor violations and you can lose your right to own a gun for a period of time (similar to speeding tickets) or go to jail (similar to DUI).
The NRA will argue that guns are a right, not a privilege; sane people will argue that not being murdered is also a right and there is no burden to treating guns like cars.

(222,072 posts)And it's not an overnight thing. Anyone who uses a gun should be required to undergo training. I learned to shoot at summer camp back in the day - and before any of us even picked up a gun we had to learn and understand several safety rules - and the one unwritten rule was to never shoot at anything living!
I was pretty good at it and was on the team at summer camp (all girls, it was a girls' camp) and joined the team at my school as the first and only girl. And back then everyone took it seriously, there were never any incidents. Though, needless to say, there is no longer a team at my camp or my school - nor at any of the schools we used to shoot against, including the military schools. And we used rifles, no one needs a "weapon of war" unless they are on active duty in a war zone.
