It actually looks like a big plane that crashed, unlike the "Planes" on 9/11.
Edit changed plans to plane.

(28,394 posts)How does the debris field of the Malaysian crash site compare to United Flight 93 over Shanksville?
I have read accounts (or speculation) that Flight 93 was shot down and that debris was scattered for miles. Yet, I do not recall seeing debris on the ground like the flight 17. I remember seeing one huge hole in the ground on local TV that day.
Just wondering about it today.... I don't want to stir up anything. I would appreciate a logical answer from any well-informed reader. If this turns all nasty, I will self-delete it.
Thank you in advance for your replies.

(2,186 posts)the terrorists dove into the ground when they realized they had lost control of the passengers, creating a big crater where most of the debris was contained.

(1,965 posts)For Christ's sake, look at the difference. Great deal of flight 17 came down in one place. You see huge parts of the plane, luggage, bodies and parts there of, personal effects, etc. None of this is seen at any of the 9/11 sites.

(2,186 posts)Most of the debris from Flight 93 was contained within that crater, not all, but most of it.
Flight 17 was spread out over a 10 mile radius, bodies and all.

(62,444 posts)Do you know what a strip mine is?
Do you know what they do when they are done with one?
Find answers to those questions. We are talking about a nose dive into an unusually spongy area of not fully compacted soil.
Now, go to the beach or a sandbox. Throw a quarter down at the sand.
See the quarter? Where did it go?

(1,965 posts)They should have been able to pull the plane out in BIG pieces. The bodies would have been intact landing in the nice soft uncompacted dirt.

(22,997 posts)And don't say you did it in your head, because that's not the body part where crap like that is manufactured.

(62,444 posts)There is not a whole lot of difference in terms of sudden g forces between hitting a solid barrier and penetrating a few feet of disturbed soil.

(11,082 posts)UA93 was intact when it was deliberately crashed nose-first at very high speed into a reclaimed (filled-in) strip mine. The only debris that was"scattered for miles" was small bits of paper, cloth, and insulation that was carried by the wind. Whatever reason "truthers" may have for imagining that UA93 was shot down, there is no rational reason to believe it.

(28,394 posts)That does make sense.

(2,188 posts)Was anyone important on the plane? Two Malaysian planes in four months? Ironic how it's also 18 years to the day of TWA Flight 800.
298 people were important to someone.

(3,829 posts)but in major events such as this, where there are a lot of facts behind the event, there will often be coincidences. CT'ers do have fun with that fact, not understanding how life works in real life.

(10,575 posts)The shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was a blow to the global fight against Aids. Among its 298 innocent crew and passengers were at least six prominent experts on the disease.
Joep Lange, a former president of the International Aids Society, and at least five others headed for a biannual conference in Melbourne, were among those killed.
...
Earlier reports put the toll among researchers and activists at 100, but Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, the current president of the society, dismissed that count. It might be a little higher (than six) but not the numbers in some reports, she said, adding: The extent of our loss is hard to comprehend or express.
....
Not since the loss of Jonathan Mann and his wife on the sabotaged Swiss Air flight to Geneva 17 years ago has the HIV/Aids research community suffered such a great loss, said Professor Robin Weiss, emeritus professor of viral oncology at University College London.

(10,575 posts)MOSCOW, July 25 (RIA Novosti) US director Oliver Stone urged not to take for granted numerous US media reports accusing Russia of its involvement in the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page Stone stressed the necessity to examine alternative versions of the tragedy brought up by journalists.
This is too good to be true. After this massive rush to judgment by US media, please read these fascinating dissents from 2 honest investigative journalists who probe deeper than our propagandizing fourth estate. This is an unnecessarily dangerous situation brewing because of US politics, Stone said.
In his statement the director refers to journalists Robert Parry and Pepe Escobar who insist that the US government intentionally thrusts on its citizens Washingtons official stance on the issue providing, however, no ample evidence.
