Heartbreaking, hopeful at the end.

As someone who used to identify as a "born-again" Christian, I know what it means to lose a community when you speak honestly about what you believe. I am not gay, but it stuns me to think that there are people in the world who are determined to make life more difficult for others just because they feel attraction towards members of their own sex.

How painful was this young man's choice--be silent about who he truly is--or lose his mother's love?
May God, The Universe or whatever bring a mother-figure of sorts into his life.

IMO his mother will never have peace having disowned her son for a religion.

We befriended an older woman that was previously a JW. She told us her daughters would not speak to her and had abandoned her. One day we were downtown talking with her on the street and she started bawling. Her daughter had just walked by the three of us, didn’t acknowledge her mom or look at any of us and just kept walking. It was one of the most heartbreaking moments I’ve observed. Fuck religion.
