If a trans person has had all the surgeries and can live as the gender that they identify with why the need for the continued "trans" label?
(I have been watching 90 day fiancé' and one of the guys walks around with sign about trans acceptance and is all worried about telling his new fiancé's family that he is trans and I am thinking, "Why do they have to know?" I guess this is what caused me to question)
I realize some trans people do not go through all the surgeries so for them I understand. But say I was born with some birth defect, (and I heard a doctor describe trans-sexuality this way) not related to sex; would I spend my entire life with a label that describes that birth defect? I heard a girl TV say that she was born with 3 nipples. So they removed one. But she just mentioned it and that was all
I realize that I am very ignorant about a lot of things and that I probably do not understand all about this issue. If someone can explain I would appreciate

(10,403 posts)Because a lot of transwomen like myself likely will not get their penis removed. It's not only expensive but very painful from what I've read. So whenever a transwoman goes on a date. They kinda have to let people know this because of potential trans panic issues because some guy will kill a trans woman because they think if she was once a guy. He will be perceived that he is gay and will go into a fury and kill her.
But it's just another way to say oh it's the trans persons fault they lead them on.
We can officially claim ourselves as women yes and I do. But sometimes its better to let others know that we trust.

(16,300 posts)Granting the entire premise of your question there still remains this:
Other people won't leave it alone. They won't let it lie. They won't treat a trans woman/man as a woman/man no matter what medical/surgical stuff the trans people in question have endured. They insist on making other people's birth certificates and chromosomes their, and everyone's, business. They. Won't. Leave. It. Alone.
Who are these people? Most of America, seems like, or at least too much of it. Certainly -- by their own proclamations -- most of the Repukes/GrOPers, cons, fundies, bigots, assholes, but I repeat myself.

(10,403 posts)Like I don't tell people I don't know like oh I'm trans. Just people I trust and sadly people will find out.
The thing is what makes me laugh is that these idiots think that science says otherwise even though the science that they follow is bullshit and then they'll claim oh but it's biology and nature. Even it's like yeah and guess what medical science has said? Fuck that we can make that different now. And then they'll go oh but God doesn't make mistakes and it's like well it depends on what God you worship and and if I don't worship that God I don't really give a fuck what your opinions about your horse shit religion.
I don't really give a fuck honestly this is the fact that it's like we must make sure that trans people don't exist we have to do everything to make sure we can genocide these people into nonexistence. That's why you see a lot of people on here even you know don't consider trans people part of the LGBTQ community.
We are very hot topic issue even though you know we just want to live our lives but they can't leave well enough alone because they have to have some kind of scapegoat. And it's kind of funny how some people think that oh well they won't touch us because you know we have all rights who gives a shit with trans people want right?
news flash they're coming for you next.

(23,001 posts)He goes around with a sign about trans rights which is fine but he is all by himself! He seems to think that everyone needs to know he is trans. But it all may be the show pushing him to do all this as they always need some dramatic story line and so far this guy being trans and having to tell his new girlfriend's parents that he is trans is the drama for this couple. I don't see the need for that but it is TV

(10,403 posts)Mostly yes its for the show. Unless its a pride parade or protest. But sometimes I think its necessary especially when it comes to parents. My girlfriends parents know this and they are okay with me. I make their daughter happy and that's all they care about in the end.

(4,350 posts)I stand in solidarity. And I agree... there is always a "next" guy they'll come for. If its not gender, dress, or the wrong religion... it'll be the great big blue "D" we all sport. My horrid experience and what I see happening now is one of the reasons I'm so militant at times. I'd really like to be the peaceful pacifist I always thought myself to be. But these are not those times. What happens today makes what I went through pale in comparison.

(4,350 posts)Police actually taking people out of their own apartments to jail for simply doing Sabbat rituals. The windshield of my car was completely broken, and then as if that wasn't enough, they got the back window, too.
Someone also called my work (a government contracting co) and told them I was a witch and who knows what all else. I do know I had to inform my boss that there really were witches in the real world, which kind of took him back a bit. Being a computer programmer, and fairly open minded and proud of our shared Irish and Scottish heritages, that went better than it might have otherwise. There was a bunch of other stuff, too. I lost two coven members when they were threatened with child services taking away their kids. At least I didn't lose my job. Others weren't as lucky. I think being govt contracting actually helped.
It was the early 80's and the Satanic panic still hadn't subsided in the Midwest...

That is why I came out of the closet in 1973, when it was not yet usual.

(2,809 posts)Albeit the time and some extinction therapy has dulled the reverberations of my inadvertent outing-- 1974, I was 13 in a tiny redneck community. I certainly would have pitched for Ketamine therapy long ago had it been available to me.

(2,809 posts)Locker room heterosexist /gender conformity jackassery still too often dominates puerile humor media.
Most LGBTQ I know would certainly have our lives accepted as naturally and with similar "live and let live" equanimity, however even the mention of our relationships without explicit details garners wildly overblown responses from a vocal minority. It would only be in a far more ideal world we could ideally do without Pride marches, other forms of protest against the dogmatic reproductive prerogative.
Keep in mind there are areas of the world, even radical elements of our own nation who still pontificate the "deserving of nothing but death" trope, and enact such.
Oh, God. Some of you have read my story before, so skip on.
My face to face with that creep Fred Phelps in 1975 (est.) still haunts my nightmares. It was only in his declining months prior to death, he realized some of his kindest caregivers were people he previously would have encouraged his followers to execute. He admitted his grave error far too late. He passed on with the blood and misery of a multitude on his soul.
