And every single woman, living in a world of male violence, is gas lighted by the patriarchy to shoulder the blame for their victimhood.
Every. Single. Time.

(120,041 posts)I think of Holly Near's song, "Fight Back". Still true all these years later.
It's true so as a man I have no reply except to say I am sorry.

(26,730 posts)but I have honestly never done any of those.
And when I was in my 20s I was often taking a public bus home very late at night. My scheduled shift ended at 10pm but I often did not get off work until much later, often hours later. I was a ticket agent at National Airport in Washington, DC, and didn't get to go home until after the last flights left or arrived. Even then, I simply walked from the bus stop to my apartment fearlessly. Yes, I paid attention to what was around me, and walked with purpose and confidence.
What I said back then was that if someone was trying to stalk me, to watch and note exactly when I was taking the bus home at night, that person would soon give up in despair because I was NEVER on the same bus two nights running.
I am not suggesting that list isn't valid, because I know it is for many woman. But honestly, not for 100%. Perhaps I am the only woman in the past 50 years who hasn't done any of those, but I'm going to suggest I'm not. Please do not make universal something that is simply common.
