Disability
Related: About this forumAny disabled worried about financial survival?
I get a decent ssdi amount due to some ok salaries I've had, but Medicare and Medicare part D cut into it now. I'm glad to have Medicare.
The bulk of our income comes from my SO. I'm supposed to get early pension at one month after 60 I can apply. Should my SO pass, I can get his pension 10 yrs. If we marry, for life. The cost of living now has me scared.
Anyone else have fears like this being disabled? Thanks for reading

(18,837 posts)You state you have Medicare and part D which would be over 65. Im sure Im reading it wrong.
Anyway, yes its scary as heck not knowing the future when things are expensive.

(407 posts)In my 70's, limited mobility, on SS, multiple medical issues.
Even with IRA's there remain the fears of major health problems, natural disasters, or cutting of benefits if republicans take over.
IOW, the future remains scary, as it always has been.
Yes, it's scary. Do you have a way of calming your fears sometimes?

(21,066 posts)My husband died recently. Being I get more on SS than he did, I got nothing.
I was recently given a whopping $23 in food stamps, that's it.
If I did not own the house we owned together, I'd be panic stricken right now.
I lay in bed at night worried to death!
I probably won't be alive any longer than another 10 years is my hope because if I live longer than that, I'm screwed.
I have no advice as no one can plan to become disabled. It was the very last thing I wanted, believe me.

(13,829 posts)I'm developing mental-and-physical health issues from the worry. We rent in a HCOL area. I dread the owner will sell out from under us or move back.
I get lightheaded when I think of all this. I'm also having weeks of unknown cause abdominal pain and 25k to 32k tmj treatment. I'm overwhelmed.

(21,066 posts)Please let me know.
We bought the house in 2001 and I've managed to hang-on to it.
It has gone up dramatically but I don't care to move as it is a small house that is set-up for the disabled.
I hate the worrying. It is so unhealthy!
I've had my share of stomach problems too. I almost died from them in 2009. It was diverticulitis! Not good.
I hope you get some answers soon!
Take care.

(13,829 posts)We can't afford a condo here near my drs. Stressful.
This pain has gone on 20 something days. I guess since the miralax didn't work, I need to find out whats going on. But diagnostic tests and biopsies are scary. It might be diverticulitis?

(21,066 posts)I had no idea what diverticulitis was/is.
I'd had pain on and off for a few years until it nailed me good.
I ended up having surgery and lost my appendix and 1/3 of my intestinal tract! I also required five blood transfusions as well. I damn near died, I kid you not.
I don't know how they can test for it but a colonoscopy would show it.
Its a nasty problem to have and it never goes away.
Get checked if you can.
Thanks for the HCOL info. I hope your landlord stay put forever!

(13,829 posts)My colonoscopy a few yrs back came out ok. But who knows. All this worry has me having acid reflex and extreme anxiety. I worry I could be very sick. At least I have traditional Medicare. No supplement since i really can't afford it.

(2,339 posts)Thankfully, bought a foreclosure, did some work on it, and have a fairly cheaper mortgage.
