I just took a heavy-duty probiotic for the first time.
And the results are like having Drano. I am completely empty, so to speak.
Is this to be expected?

(3,137 posts)IBD who take 15 or 20 100-million capsules of probiotics every day because it reduces their IBD symptoms. Your system will clean out, that is expected. Unless you are on a specific diet that addresses good gut flora issues the use of probiotics everyday is required to maintain good gut flora. Any meds you are on will destroy good gut flora, eating the wrong food or junk food will destroy good gut flora. My suggestion is that you increase the dose to 3 or 5 per day and take for at least 2 weeks before you decide whether its working or not. With probiotics you don't know its working until you stop taking it. A couple of years ago I was taking 15, 100-million probiotic capsules every day for almost a month. It was necessary to get the good gut flora to consistently outnumber the bad gut flora and to start working. Now I take only 3/day.

(48,827 posts)I ate a notable size of rhubarb pie last night WITH the probiotic.
And do you know what rhubarb does naturally? It's a laxative.
I fixed myself unknowingly. Not necessarily the probiotic for my ills today.
