Bill Gates calls for nationwide shut down to curb coronavirus pandemic

In a Washington Post op-ed Tuesday, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates offered more details on how the U.S. can better deal with the fight against COVID-19.

The co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation suggested three steps for dealing with the health crisis. First, he says there needs to be a nationwide approach to shutting down.

"The country's leaders need to be clear: Shutdown anywhere means shutdown everywhere," he said Tuesday.

"Until the case numbers start to go down across America — which could take 10 weeks or more — no one can continue business as usual or relax the shutdown."

Gates also says the federal government needs to step up its efforts to test more people and to prioritize testing starting with medical workers and first responders.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates: Any confusion about (a nationwide shutdown) will only extend the economic pain, raise the odds that the virus will return, and cause more deaths.

Without a national shutdown this is going to go on and on and on -- it will of course be going on and on no matter what, but seems when some states literally are doing nothing, it will prolong the misery for all.

Of course a baked potato would make a better president than you-know-who so guess I'm not really saying much

because he's in absolutely no danger of missing meals for the rest of his life or 1000s of lifetimes after his, even with the giveaways to the third world.

What these rich guys need to realize is that most people have zero financial cushion, that three weeks without income can put them on the street. And they have absolutely no intention of parting with a dime of their own fortunes to support their fellow citizens while such a proposed lockdown occurs.

Hey, Bill, this virus has us all frightened, it's killing everybody but the kids and it's killing a very tiny percentage of them. However, unless you're willing to put your money where your mouth is, you're just going to have to take your chances with the rest of us.
