Related: About this forumI am sure that osteopathic physicians perform important role in healthcare; but in the White House?
I admit, my only encounter with, at least, a student in the Osteopathic local school, was when a wife of a student complained to me, at the gym, that they has to know chemistry.
Yes, I told her. Many medicines derive from chemistry. And the interaction between a drug, or drugs, and the body are a result of chemistry. All the physiological functions in a body are chemistry.

Conley issued a memo approving Trumps use of hydroxycholoroquine, writing the potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks. It is unclear if Conley had explicitly prescribed the medication.

(4,736 posts)I work for a group of hospitalists, and there are several DOs among them. They're regarded as equal to MDs.

(18,166 posts)A DO is not that much different than an MD.
I had one for years.

He did perform the first hair transplant on Hugh Downs, then appeared on the Phil Donahue show. Phil was in Dayton then.

He was a family friend and a fine doctor.

DOs have every bit the training of MDs with the additional emphasis on physical examinations above and beyond that which MDs get trained to perform. Not chiropractic--something many who disdain DOs misunderstand. Frankly, we'd all be better off if good thorough physical exam technique (and thorough medical history) continued to be emphasized in medical school over the immediate jump to lab and scans/tech. I'm not a DO, but I've come to respect them and their slightly different training tremendously.

(113,130 posts)that MDs from Harvard, Tufts, and other schools did. Their focus was different but they had to know their stuff or they were eaten alive in M&M sessions. There weren't many of them, but the ones who were there and able to cope with Boston teaching hospitals were competent.
Conley strikes me as somebody who is going along to get along and counting the days until it's all over. At least he's not quite as bonkers as Jackson seems to be if yesterday's tweet was any indication. Either he's broken half his fingers or holy crap!
Conley's got a hugely oversized 74 year old toddler to cope with, a toddler who will fire anyone who disagrees with him on anything he knows absolutely nothing about, like nearly everything. Most of his job is likely directed toward limiting harm.
As for the hydroxychloroquine, the 400mg./day that I was on probably didn't do much damage but I wonder if it's penetrated the cement in Dumdum's head that blindness is a side effect and he's going to need to get his eyes checked every 6 months for the next few years.

(48,839 posts)Just as dermatologists should not be treating heart problems, osteopaths should not be treating infectious diseases.
But then, given Trump's disdain for science, or to any profession. given his previous doctors - remember before the election when we heard that Trump would be the "healthiest individual," later recanted - I can almost imagine Trump actively selecting a personal physician with questionable qualifications.

(113,130 posts)Conley seems like a guy who gives the big baby whatever he wants. Perhaps he's secretly counting the royalties from the tell all book he's going to write once Dumdum is out. Who knows?
He's at least somebody Dumdum can bully.
ETA: I didn't say the same training, I said the same internships.
