hitting the planet right now, especially Europe. This is likely from the variants. We are not at the end of this. When the variants hit the US in a big way by July 15th we will be dealing with a country who still refuses to wear masks and not enough people are vaccinated yet.
The doctors on CNN and MSNBC, Peter Hortez and Michael Olsterholm, agreed the variants are extremely contagious and more deaths are coming.

(52,223 posts)how Europe was the area that was about 1 month ahead of the US a year ago. I fear that we are not learning our lesson still. Too many are not masking or social distancing (and a lot of them haven't gotten the vaccine).
These variants are a big problem as well as the weather getting warmer. Maskholes will continue to infect and kill many.

(10,613 posts)Yes vaccines can be less effective against variants, but the rate of infections will still be dramatically lower from the assholes, and also from just getting regularly infected.

(10,613 posts)ahead of the President's goal. Which means we are maybe half way to reaching herd immunity in the United States, at least to get to the 70% range of the population vaccinated that it requires. We are seeing a steady decrease in infections and an exponential rate of vaccines, so I do think we are near the light at the end of the tunnel despite these variants.
