card. I don't usually crave sweets but I just read about this offer by Krispy Kreme CEO in my Time mag. I like the CEO's response to criticism about their new policy to get people vaccinated. Mr. Tattersfield, the CEO, said, "If folks don't want to visit a doughnut shop, they don't have to".

A very long time ago Dunkin Doughnuts was good, but not in recent decades. Sigh. I might need to go back to making my own, which I used to do when I was in high school. I would actually get up early and make doughnuts. I'd use a recipe from a cookbook my mother got when she was married in 1942, and so all of the recipes in it were even older. I recall the doughnuts as being completely wonderful.

(26,729 posts)Lucky me, I live in a city with no Krispy Kremes.
Honestly, for those of you happy to get their donuts, go for it! If you like them, then that's all that matters. My opinion here is meaningless, and I know that.

(1,215 posts)When I added that I thought it was nice of the company to offer the free donuts (which I personally wouldn't take as the gift they are; I really don't think they're worth the calories), I wasn't in any way implying that you didn't feel that way as well.
Re-reading my post just now, I realize that it might possibly have come across that way, which I absolutely did not intend. If it did seem like that, I am truly sorry.

(26,729 posts)I'm the one not entranced by Krispy Kreme. Everyone who likes it is more than entitled to liking them. I actually do appreciate the offer of free donuts. It's my personal problem that I don't happen to be fond of Krispy Kreme. Honestly.
Do not think I'm taking any sort of offense, because I am not. I can piss and moan about Krispy Kreme all I like. That doesn't change anyone else's appreciation of them.
I might have mentioned that many, many years ago, when I was in high school, I'd sometimes get up early in the morning and make donuts for my family. Back then I used a recipe from the cookbook my mother was given when she got married in 1942. A wonderful cookbook that I wish I had all these years later. Anyway, I'd get up early make donuts (they were fried in Crisco.) which my sister remembered many years later and told me how much she loved them. For me, it was almost a meh, this is what I do. But honestly, I loved those donuts every bit as much as she did. Alas, I don't have that cookbook and so I cannot make them now. Darn.

It's the heavy, oily cake donuts you've got to watch out for.
