Related: About this forumWell, I made three years - but COVID finally got me. Positive home test last evening
Going to get a confirming swab at the doc in an hour, then if definitely positive, will have a video con with my doc. I've had all of the Moderna vaxxes and boosters. 66 years old, only risk factor is a bit overweight.
Strange virus this is - over the last week, I've had vertigo - then felt like a cold was coming on (some sneezes, scratchy throat, post nasal drip). last evening I felt feverish - lo and behold, 100 - took the test - and...damn.
Fitful night sleeping, different symptoms came and went (took NyQuil and Guafenesin) - this morning not too bad until I got up - room spun, got nauseous - cold sweat. Went pretty quickly away, had coffee and cereal and couldn't taste it (probably due to very stuffed nose). Right now, energy a bit low, no breathing issues/congestion, just that head cold feeling.
I suspect I am a few days into this - we shall see where it goes next. My wife is of course on watch for symptoms. Thankfully we are pretty isolated here and can just hang out for a few weeks.
Keep safe, all.

(52,755 posts)I actually just took a test a half hour ago. Came back negative. It seems I have my first head cold in 3 years.

2) Stop at bakery and buy 1/2 pound of rugelach.
3) Walk 2 miles back home.

(16,643 posts)That the long term effects can be a problem, Paxlovid should reduce the viral load / slow replication.

(14,712 posts)My parents were/are in a nursing home and my Mom got it in August 2020. They were in the same room together and they kept testing my Dad and test came back negative several times. Finally after about five days he tested positive. They were put in isolation for about a week or little longer. They survived it. Unfortunately a year later (in August) my Dad passed away from a stroke.

(13,538 posts)Its a serious drug & can cause other problems. So if you're not at high risk I doubt you'll get it. My brother is a medical instructor at UF & when HE caught it all the MDs that work with him told him to not take it.
But thats just my .02 of course you & your DR make that decision.
here's an article on it in Time.

(9,696 posts)I felt better in hours after I started taking it.
My husband got it in July so I knew I was doomed. Didnt present as typical cold symptoms. Started as just feeling rundown with a wicked sore throat that kept getting worse. This was before the new omicron booster came out, got that and flu shot as soon as I could.

(34,751 posts)We avoided it for three years here and then the week before Christmas my husband came down with it. Then a couple days later, me and my two sons. We fell like Dominoes, Lol
I wore a mask at first and stayed out of whatever room he was in, but when youre all living in the same house
.
Felt off and out of it for like 3 days, achy, a mild sore throat. I did not get the fever everyone else had. then felt better, but like I had a head cold. Lost my taste and smell for 3 days. My doc said if I wanted Paxlovid I could have it, but my symptoms were pretty mild,so I said Ill just stick it out. Was much better after 4 days. All I ever needed was some Benadryl.
Good luck to you both and I hope youre feeling better very soon!

(4,668 posts)But every one is going to get it at some point. We got ours this past February.
Ours was like a cold but Nyquil did nothing. Tested clean after 5-6 days and I'm 71.
Get your rest, drink your liquids, read some good books.

(4,668 posts)He said everyone.
Our job is to limit the number of naïve people who are exposed until the disease is attenuated enough to not hospitalize of kill them.
Or build up enough immunity so that when you do get it it will be mild.

(13,538 posts)Unless for you guys its NOT rough; different strokes for each of us. But I'd lose it if I didnt go anywhere!

(1,895 posts)I got it too this Fall.
Went to Florida for a week.
Thought we were careful.
But grandson and I got it.
He was sick with a fever and headache.
I only tested because he was positive.
Barely had any symptoms. But had gotten 5th booster a month before.
Was kind of relieved to have to isolate after 4 days at Disney.
But. It took 2 weeks before I had a negative test.
Followed CDC guidelines.
But, we still mask in stores.

(176,856 posts)I had it two years ago -- right now, in fact. Mostly I felt like I had a mild flu, more than a cold because of the fever and body aches. I never had breathing issues, but also never lost the sense of taste or smell. It just seemed to last forever, more than a week.
Feel better!

(2,880 posts)I had vertigo in the beginning as well. Keep a watch on your blood pressure. My pulse was fast as well. When I called the cardiologist he said it sounded like I was fighting a virus. I had tested at home for four days but when I did the PCR it was positive. I have no idea how long I had covid before this. Take care and talk to your doc about blood pressure friendly OC drugs just to be safe. Your body is strong and protected, you got this! My best to you and yours. 💗💗🙏

I didn't know there's a gardening group. I will look into it.
I have avoided covid to date but I assume that won't last. I'm sure the two of you will take good care of yourselves and one another.

(6,913 posts)Like a bad head cold for me: congestion, coughing, sneezing, sinus pain and drainage. Muscle pain. Low fever. All in all, I feel crappy. Doc said no Paxlovid for me due to other health issues and meds (if you take Flecanide, thats a no). I will get over it, though.
DH was initially sicker, higher fever, but he got Paxlovid. He didnt like some of the side effects, like an unpleasant taste in his mouth when eating and some gut issues, but seems to be making a faster recovery.
The docs say that having had all the vaccinations and boosters really helped us.

(35,702 posts)My nephew announced that he had tested positive for Covid after we'd all spent 5 days together at Thanksgiving. He said, "But don't worry, I have no symptoms. I hardly know I even have it."
We said, "Yeah, you're 22 but we're all in our 50's and 60's. We've got a lot more to worry about than you do." I can't tell you how annoyed I was with my nephew for being so thoughtless.
So I came home with the dizziness, and felt like maybe I was getting a slight cold. I took some aspirin and some vitamin C, and waited for the worst to happen. But nothing did really happen. No temperature, no sore throat, only slightly hoarse - for the first 3 days. Then by Wednesday I discovered that I had no sense of taste or smell. That's when I knew I had the Covid, but it was a very mild case. I didn't even get a positive reading on my home testing kit. (It had to be a false negative.) But I didn't want to take any chances, I stayed home and quarantined for two weeks, including the time since I returned from the Thanksgiving visit with my family.
There was never any sickness, no fever, no cold or sore throat. It was just hoarseness for about 6 or 7 days, and loss of taste and smell for 4 days. That's it. I could have easily been walking around, obliviously infecting other people. Except I didn't do that - I stayed home and waited it out.
I'm certain that my vaccinations in 2021 prevented me from getting sicker. So thank you, Dr. Fauci and Joe Biden! Because of those vaccinations I'm here to tell the story.
