Disclaimer* I really do try hard to not allow myself be bothered by things.
I just remembered that I didn't complete the registration for my appointment with a retina specialist today. They had sent me a link on my phone. I started to go through the process, but, damn it, it was too difficult to go through the entire thing on my phone because my vision has declined. I was already a bit emotional about the possibility of going blind. I decided I needed to get back to it later. Well, of course the link is no longer valid. So now I need to wait until the office opens and ask them to email me a link, rather than text it to me. How can they not know that it can be difficult for someone who has vision problems?
Last week when I went to the ophthalmologist, the receptionist handed me a form to complete that had no larger than 8 point font. Excuse my language, but WTF???? I had just gotten the news that my macular degeneration had gone from dry to partially wet, so my state of mind wasn't great. It took a lot for me to maintain politeness, but I did.
Anyway, all I have to say is GRRRRRRR!

(6,743 posts)It was the equivalent of 5 printed pages.
I hit "send" but it wouldn't go through.
They tell me I need to fill it out again before my appointment.

(13,505 posts)you can write it down. I'll make an X at the end of the form.
I've done that a couple of times. (No, I didn't use the x).

(8,513 posts)I'm always worried that I'll come across as sort of snarky. When I'm irritated it usually can be heard in my tone, so I tend to bite my tongue until I can modulate better.

(35,068 posts)An ophthalmologists office would take it into consideration that their patients may have trouble with their vision when demanding these itsy bitsy tedious forms be filled out.
And that a patient such as yourself might be rattled about a diagnosis. I am beyond tired of uncaring robotic medical office personnel.
I hear ya. Wishing you all the best.

(8,513 posts)I don't want to make the person who is first in my line of sight to have to suffer my wrath when they can't really do anything about the problem anyway.
I always think about how my now-ex-husband treated servers and cashiers if he wasn't pleased about something (which was ALWAYS).
Diamond_Dog
(35,068 posts)Its awful the way some people treat servers and cashiers. Your ex husband set a good example of how not to behave.
In medical settings, you really have to be your own advocate, I have found. Maybe if enough people complain about the tedious forms, theyll do something about it.

(8,513 posts)My ex hired some guys to help him move his massive amount of stuff out of the house, yard and sheds, and I was astounded at how horribly he was talking to them. I'm surprised someone hasn't retaliated, but at this point I wouldn't know about it anyway.
Karma is paying him back now for the horrid way he has treated people. I have no sympathy for him.

(8,513 posts)My visit with the retina specialist went well. I got an injection in one eye, and will be going back every four weeks for a little bit.

(34,242 posts)two weeks. That was about 8 or 9 years ago. Have a big blob floating around. Trying to decide if I want to do that. How uncomfortable are those treatments? Started me again on eye pressure drops. Not too bad yet. Nextll be cataracts removed in 6 months.
do I agree with you. How is it an ophthalmologist office or retina specialist not realize that these tiny letters and numbers are difficult for many of their patients to see! Pretty much same goes for other doctors as well. I always fill these forms out on my iPad where I am able to enlarge these forms. When it was paper forms I disliked that as well because I have rheumatoid arthritis, so I would have to fill them out a little at a time, if they sent them to me in advance.

(8,513 posts)Realistically, most people going to see a retina specialist are older. We need bigger print!
Everyone wants their form filled out, and it's the same thing on all of them. I recall when President Obama tried to put through a computerized records system. The Republicans naturally were against it, but I never could figure out why.

(93,203 posts)My dentist sends some questionnaire prior to every appointment and I never bother with them because it starts with a link and I won't open those on my phone, period. I simply tell them I can't fill it out on my phone and that's usually the end of it.
I would call them and ask for some other format to complete the form, I ask for paper if they really want me to fill it out. I don't do anything on my phone that requires entry of personal info but that's just me.

(8,513 posts)It was still somewhat annoying because I had to upload my ID and insurance card.

(93,203 posts)I'm old and can't figure it out so I bring all my info with me and fill out forms when I get there. I usually get the paper form.

(2,949 posts)Did not have any small text forms to fill out. Eye Docters told me if the lines get wavy call. I called and they had me come in same day. I got first shot in eye and it helped greatly. Been getting shot every 8 weeks or so for almost a year now. Vision ok and doing well.

(8,513 posts)Mine was dry in both eyes in January. The opthalmologist I saw before going to this specialist told me that it was wet on the outside and could move toward the center at any time. But the retina specialist said one eye was still dry. I need to go every 4 weeks at first, and the intervals will get longer.
I'm glad you're doing well.

I just tell them it's unreadable ( 😉 it isn't. I'm nearsighted and just take my glasses off. DON'T TELL THEM)
I just ditched a customer survey from the auto service department because it asks questions about stuff I don't really care about, and there's no room for an essay. One that thanks the service technicians!
I'll just write a letter and hand it to the service manager next time I am nearby. Guess which goes up on the cork board?

(113,131 posts)has passed my own lips more than once when frustration over being handed a page of small print text and being told to read through it to see if there are any questions I'd like to ask before I sign it. This has happened to me so many times. No matter how many times bureaucratic functionaries hear that I can't see beyond large objects, it just doesn't penetrate their cement skulls.
It can also go the other way, people who realize I'm blind but assume I'm also deaf and probably quite stupid.
This world is generally intolerant of the handicapped but it is especially hostile to the blind.

(8,513 posts)When I finally got through to a real person with the cable company recently, they said I could do this or that via chat. I replied that I couldn't see to text, and that I'm likely going blind, and that they were discriminating against blind people. Turns out all I had to do was throw out the "D" word (discrimination) to get results. I'll do it quicker next time if I have to. I really don't want to be a 'Karen", but I also don't want to be frustrated.
