Latest COVID News. Not Good. (The Let it Rip Strategy)

- Daily Kos, Dec. 14, 2023. 'Latest COVID News - Not Good.' (Recs, 445, Comments, 215).

Stop risking Covid infection!

I posted a LENGTHY reply on another reclist story and decided that it probably needs to be its own post. I’ll simply paste it all below, but I’m triggered to post this as a standalone item because of SO MANY replies I see where folks are talking about their infection “this time” or making reference to the fact that they have had Covid multiple times. That’s… alarming. So I present below the alarm bells that are not being broadly discussed. Seriously people — the goal should be to NOT catch Covid. Full stop...

NIH not good scientific enough for you?

The journal Nature? At least twice.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Cedars Sinai.

CDC at least twice.

and more.

By your logic only scientists should write about science and only politicians should write about politics.

You disagree with the point of the article? The point is to take Covid seriously. Are you advocating we should not take it seriously until we've checked out every single reference, tracing scientist author biographies and reading their PhD dissertations to make sure they are 'true' scientists?

A world renounced immunologist (the study of how viruses effect the human body). He evaluates virtually every scientific study of the effects of Covid soon after publication and has written a definitive article about Covid in relatively simple clear language that I have posted on here several times in the past and just can't be bothered to do it again.
I think it fair to say he would disagree of much of what this anonymous poster has written.

Thank you for posting. It is good to have a good summation, but there is much I don't understand about your objections.

What is your point in pointing to this guy? It doesn't seem like he is one of those quack doctors who push Ivermectin and zinc and rail against "death jabs". But neither are the medical scientists at NIH, MSLCC, Nature, etc.

Why should we pay attention to him and ignore the CDC and other institutions cited in the article you are complaining about? Does Prof Veldhoen disagree with the points the paper makes?

What is "thematic-ai.eu"? I am unable to read the Dutch about page, which names a different name, Ethika-AI, but the page is about Thematic-AI.

Is an AI (artificial intelligence) involved?

He has recently published a book on the overlap between antiscience and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, and how medical scientists need to be skilled in overcoming such arguments. He is a gem.

to realize what's happening. The recent booster vax took a lot more effort for me, I didn't get it until early Nov.

The RX depts at 2 CVS stores I use were understaffed and have gone to scheduling appoints. online for yourself instead of calling, and no walk ins. But at least they're still providing the service.

The nos. of people who haven't got the most recent vax are scary. And the govt. isn't covering as much of the cost for those uninsured and underinsured like in the past.

There is a CDC program to help with that, I posted about it here but I wonder how many people heard about it.

I've been substituting at my local school - I'm only 1 out of 2 people wearing a mask. Meanwhile, teachers are picking up bugs from the kids right and left. Jobs for me, but risk for them. The teachers have the attitude that if it happens, it happens. Many are what I'd consider high risk.

Meanwhile, the local nursing homes report less than 10% of residents AND staff have gotten the booster. Post Christmas will be a high risk time.

I hate having to wear a mask all, especially because subbing requires a lot of walking. But I don't want to risk long covid.

who won't mask, I know it's uncomfortable at work with long hrs and lots of activity, but still consider the risks.

That's a shame about teachers who won't mask at your school. My sister was a preschool teacher and director for many years. She has a strong constitution, good stamina and kept on working thru many bad colds and chest infections.

The situation at nursing homes is so sad, the elderly and vulnerable and the often overworked and underpaid staff. I remember reading that during the first Covid year many residents and staff weren't vaxxed and there were lots of losses.

Stressed health aids often work several jobs to get by and so travel to 2 or 3 facilities a day spreading Covid. We have such serious problems in this country, esp for many on the margins. Stay well & take care!
