Bird Flu Jumps From Cow to Human in The US: Experts Confirm First Case

It's now official: the highly pathogenic bird flu A(H5N1) that's been spreading across the globe since 2020 has now been passed from a cow to a dairy farmer in the US, the first confirmed cow-to-human transmission of this virus on record.

The good news is the case was caught quickly – and the virus manifested as inflammation in the eye, rather than any type of upper respiratory infection. So the chances of it having been passed on to anyone else, if human-to-human transmission is even yet possible, are lower.

What's more, after nervously watching it spread through poultry and wild animals, we've now got some solid data on how the bird flu presents in humans, which should help experts in assessing the threat to public health – and in identifying more cases if and when they appear.

"It's a huge thing that the virus has jumped from birds to mammals, dairy cows in this case, and then to humans," says environmental toxicologist Steve Presley, the director of the Biological Threat Research Laboratory at Texas Tech University.

Takeaways: The virus has jumped from birds to mammals, but mostly in a sub acute form Cows pass it in unpasteurized milk to the people who milk them, but not in a form that can be passed person to person. There is no reason for alarm or for avoiding chicken, eggs, beef, or pasteurized dairy products. There is a reason to avoid unpasteurized milk, that's how it has been passed from cows to cats and t now to a dairy worker.

And dissing pasteurized milk as a govt plot of multiple kinds.

Some actually want bans on raw milk lifted so it can be distributed alongside regular milk.

They might ss well become shakers.

but the raw milk nuts have been out there forever, I can remember health food stores getting flak for not selling it back in the 60s and 70s because public health laws against it were in place. The best they could do is find a small dairy operation where the farmer would keep a few gallons aside for customers who acted like they were doing drug deals when they bought it.

Except for their extreme sex phobia, the Shakers were pretty sensible people. Were they around now, I'd fully expect them to pasteurize their milk but not homogenize it, pulling the cream off the top for butter production.

They were extremely peaceful, talented people. Just not into continuing their community.

Maga's are just self destructive, and likewise, don't seem to be concerned with growing their community.

I worked on a dairy farm as a kid. I knew not to drink the raw milk, though I tasted it. I didn't even like it.

We did have strangers who would drive up and buy some. They paid good money, so we sold it.

But that was long before mad cow, or bird flu, or any of the more modern ailments. And our milk was tested twice a week for everything else by the coop.

have to share the world with, they think will give them a better chance at survival.

I mean, I can't figure out any other explanation for desiring mass casualties like they continue to do with Covid and other issues.
