Health
Related: About this forumUnitedHealth slapped me. Lab tests are
covered. But I received a BIG bill.
Called the provider. They said: UH is doing this just to be mean after their guy was shot. (Mean… their word not mine!)
And then I was told to disregard the bill, provider would take care of it.
So, question every charge. And I hope your provider is as truthful and helpful.

(13,341 posts)Well I really rather doubt that is the 'reason' ... (do you suppose they have a medical coding for 'just being mean' ?)
Glad to hear that you provider is stepping into the breech. But of course - that means that somebody else is picking up costs that they are not responsible for. And so their bottom line ....

(4,634 posts)UH can make up any coding they want. Provider is calling out the reason for the denial.
That’s all.
Does the coding. Probably just needs to correct the coding and resubmit.

And some providers have really excellent staff ... Some not so much. And god help you if your 'provider's' staff is seeing a degree of turnover ... Run!
And, in any event - the "just being mean" comment - was pretty much garbage. Somebody (on one end or the other) made a mistake.

(1,684 posts)And not only check the bill and question charges, but be aware that medical debt is negotiable. You don't have to pay the sticker price. There is an excellent book on Amazon titled "Crush Medical Debt" by Virgie Bright Ellington MD that addresses this process. It's the best sixteen dollars that I ever spent.

(4,634 posts)dental bill. They could continue to bill me for small payments for years. Or I could pay a lump sum. They weren’t happy but went for it.
