Just saw "Yesterday". What a great movie!
We got it from our library and it's streaming on Amazon Prime. It's about a world where the Beatles suddenly have never existed. A young singer, who remembers their music, decides to start performing the songs and he becomes a major star. It's a Danny Boyle film well worth watching. And if you love the Beatles, it's a must see! .

(10,323 posts)Himesh Patel is quite engaging, and the idea of a world (mostly) without The Beatles is done quite well.
(Semi-related: I recently read 150 Glimpses Of The Beatles, and one of the penultimate chapters spins a world where Gerry and the Pacemakers were the world-changing band.)

I cracked up when Paul and Ringo show up and one is barefooted.

(215 posts)There are two different Yesterday Movies on Amazon Prime. The one staring Himesh Patel and Lily James you can buy for $9.99. The other one staring Ali Orokzai and Eva Diana Diaz is included with Prime.
I don't know anything about either one of them but I will have to watch the later one.

(12,877 posts)The movie follows the hero's cycle: he sacrifices a tooth. Why? Because any allegory of the hero's journey requires sacrifice, like Luke Skywalker losing his hand. It is only in this awakening that the hero discovers the extent of his powers and what he must do to transform the world into a safer place. From an allegorical perspective it makes perfect sense; it is the logic of myth and dreams.

I loved the movie. A friend who went with me had already seen it once, and she kept her mouth shut. She didn't spoil a thing for me. Anyone who's seen it knows what I'm talking about.

Makes you think twice to hear just how good the Beatles music is.

(31,893 posts)I caught it late at night on cable when staying at my sister's house (I don't have cable, myself).
(SPOILER ALERT!)
What I found quite astounding was how much the actor playing the hermit looked so exactly like how John Lennon would have looked had he lived to grow older.
