Geez, this year's Academy Awards nominees are sure depressing.
I'm working my way through them and so far, four of them have been pretty depressing. I'm watching them al on-line for free. So far I've seen "Nomadland", "The Father", "Promising Young Woman" and just started "Sound of Metal". Not a whole lot of laughs to be had.

(5,111 posts)I doubt this is legit. Seems like stealing to me. Ask yourself, who puts these movies up for free and why?

(12,477 posts)I know I sound like an old fart, but your choices are either movies for teenage boys, full of shooting people and blowing things up, or something so dark it makes you need therapy after seeing it "Nomadland" is a good example of this one "The Father" is another.
Things today are so depressing I want to go to the movies for an escape into something that entertains me, makes me escape from reality and laugh HARD. Nothing does that today. I have been living in old movie land, watching things from the 40's 50's and 60's. Watched the Maltese Falcoln the other night, watched a musical with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers last night.
I'm not in to what they see as entertainment right now. If you like it, I'm not dishing you, just saying that they are leaving some of us out in their choices right now.

(5,170 posts)There are movies of all stripes still being made. That said, watch what makes you happy, but don't assume that every movie mad today is horrible. And don't judge all movies by what is nominated. Those represent the best of the art form and are usually not uplifting laugh riots.
