anyone else watching 'the borgias'?
i'm enjoying it, and hoping that they got the history close enough.
it's a time period i mostly know through art history. so it's filling in a lot of gaps.
i only sort of knew about the borgias, and had no idea there had been a borgia pope.
i guess now i see why priests cant marry.

(71,802 posts)didnt rly think about how that was just part of a whole power structure that was so corrupt.
sorta knew that they amassed those estates because they were clerics. but didnt think about the bloodshed that went w that.
and i now know where 'bonfire of the vanities' comes from.

(57,432 posts)A totally corrupt power structure from the top down.
I know it was shocking to see a pope and his family act in such horrendous ways.
Reminds me of the current GOP.
Power and wealth at any cost.

(57,432 posts)The GOP causes a great deal of death and destruction with their policies and inaction. And they convince the populace that it is all normal or someone else's fault.
But it is the same basic strategy as the Borgias.

(17,812 posts)The pope's history wasn't finished.
The actors were great, especially Jeremy Irons and Sean Harris. The costuming was beautiful and the sets were extravagant. I heard it was costing a fortune to produce, and I can see why.
