The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - Title Announcement Prime Video
I remember back in the 70's, after reading the trilogy for the first time and talking with friends about how cool it would be if they made a movie out of it. I remember talking my parents into taking me and my friends to see the premier of Bakshi's animated version at the Ziegfeld down in midtown Manhattan. I remember thinking what an amazing job Jackson did with the trilogy in live action... Especially the extended versions. And while the extended Hobbit movies had their moments, I remember being overall disappointed.
So... Overall, I've gotten and been pretty happy with what I wanted as a kid.
I'm not certain I ever wanted or needed this though... I really do hope they show me that I did want this all along and that I'm just as happy with what they do.

I was also underwhelmed with The Hobbit movies. It should never have been more than one.

(4,875 posts)It's a complete world with its own rich history and legends and myths. I am assuming the creators are drawing on that material, so it will be new to most viewers and they won't arrive with preconceived ideas in mind.
Tolkien has already connected this material to the stories we do already know and love, so that won't be just up to the whims of the creators. It's already there. And stylistically, Jackson's films have set the tone, so there's that rich body of work to work with as well.
I am looking forward to it. As with ANY new show, it could miss the mark, but Prime is sinking a huge amount of money into this, so I'm betting they want their money's worth. If it's anywhere near as well done as their recent Wheel of Time series, I will be happy.
And for the record, I hated Bakshi's version of my beloved Middle Earth! It was NOTHING like what I had envisioned. The only one who has come anywhere close is Peter Jackson.
Here's to hoping this will be great!

(12,184 posts)The Jackson trilogy rocked because the casting was so very wonderful.
This new one from Amazon, though -- I can't stand the female narrator's voice! She sounds like a teeny bopper. How can they ever match Cate Blanchett's mature and beautiful introduction?

(4,875 posts)I think this actress is supposed to be a very young Galadriel, so it makes sense that her voice doesn't have the gravitas of Cate's.
But yeah, I miss her voice, too.
However, I think the visuals in the newest trailer are awesome!
