"The Last Kingdom" Season Five now on Netflix
It's the final season of this outstanding series. It's superb historical fiction based on conflicts between the Danes and Saxons in England during the time of King Alfred, and really brings to life what living in that era must have been like.
Highly recommended and very bingeworthy.

(7,892 posts)I've forgotten which season I last watched, but it felt like it was coming to an end, so I stopped about mid-way through the final episode, because I didn't want to face the ending... but are you saying there is now *another* season? Or could I have already been watching season 5 (a few months ago)?

(7,892 posts)Thanks. Actually, this has happened to me with this series (and others, tbh) where I thought I was watching the final season, only to discover much later that, no, it continues.
I'm sure there's a larger lesson I should learned by this....

Have you seen The Affair on Showtime? Best binging ever. Excellent acting and writing. Think i may be close to end tho season 4

(7,892 posts)I just watched Little Fires Everywhere, and the main male actor was from the affair (not dominic).
But yeah, I did watch 2 seasons of The Affair, and I think there are more, but I'll have to get SHO again soon to watch the rest.
So much good stuff to watch!

(16,296 posts)I really can't recommend this highly enough, if you like historical fiction. IMHO it's superior to Game of Thrones -- much more grounded in reality, without the GoT fantasy stuff.

(16,296 posts)Its not associated with any other series. I believe some people compare it with the History Channels Vikings, but theres no tie-in.

(17,833 posts)I loved Vikings, so its impossible for me not to compare it.
I really do like it but, Vikings did a better job of developing characters that you care about. With Last Kingdom, its all about Utrecht, son of Utrecht. I would say its also coarser and more violent.
Alexander Dreymon is dreamy, so I keep coming back for more.
