What's the best set-top box for Apple TV+ ?
I have ethernet, so I don't want to use Wi-Fi.
My TV set is HD but not 4K.
I don't want to talk to the remote control.
Maybe one of the many Roku boxes? If so, which one?

(31,802 posts)You can use your iPhone as a remote, network with your iMac, and stream programming from AppleTV+ intuitively.

(4,919 posts)It has ethernet, and you don't need to use Siri to use it (but it helps).
Also, on an Apple TV device, the Apple TV app integrates with Hulu, HBO Max, and others.
Plus the Apple TV box supports better sound with AirPods or Apple's HomePod speakers. Spatial Audio is amazing.

(12,887 posts)if you dont have an iPhone, iPad, or Apple computer, the case is less compelling. The Roku hardware is less expensive and works great (from my experience of several years ago), so its worth a look if youre not an Apple household.

(4,121 posts)Thank you all for your suggestions. I haven't made up my mind between Apple TV and Roku. I do have Apple stuff, but Apple TV strikes me as unnecessarily complicated and expensive. Maybe I'm too old to learn new tricks. I'll continue to dither for a while.

(4,121 posts)Not all models include ethernet. According to Wikipedia, some models include ethernet only "with compatible USB ethernet adapter". The models with ethernet ports are Roku Ultra (introduced in 2020) and Roku Ultra LT (introduced in 2021). I think these are the only models that would suit my needs. I don't see any need for USB. There's a "Feature comparison" in this Wikipedia article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roku
I don't understand all the features. What's the difference between "memory" and "storage"? Does the remote use IR or radio waves? Do I have to use voice? What does "LT" stand for?
